Thailand’s Appeals Court has overturned the Criminal Court’s acquittal of former Department of Special Investigation (DSI) director-general Tharit Pengdit and sentenced him to two years in prison for abuse of power.

Three other DSI officers, Pol Lt-Col Wannapong Kotcharak, Pol Maj Yutthana Phraedum and Pol Cpt Piya Raksakul, were also found guilty by the Appeals Court and sentenced to two years for abuse of authority over their roles in filing murder charges against former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his deputy, Suthep Thaugsuban following the crackdown on red-shirt protests in 2011/12.

The charges against the four DSI officers, under Section 157 of the Criminal Code, were filed with the Criminal Court by Abhisit and Suthep in response to the murder charges filed against the two Democrat Party leaders.

Gotta admire how they make up these "charges" abuse of authority? He filled murder charges against "The Butcher" probably not the best career move he ever made, Abhisit obviously still has protection in high place's, hardly surprising!

Makes you appreciate the prohibition against double jeopardy in the US.

The four defendants are awaiting a ruling on their bail applications.

Really?

This guy was really bad news and fully deserves his prison sentence. I remember Prayut’s first meeting with his senior government officers and he asked Tarit to identify himself.

History won't remember him, but Abhisit and Suthep will be remembered as murderers.

If you believe the murder charges that were filed against Abhisit had anything to do with seeking justice then you either don't know the full story or might be interested in a famous bridge in Brooklyn that I have for sale at a special discounted price!

Indeed. He asked Tharit to id himself and then told him to try and sue him! At the time Tharit was one of the Shin attack dogs. Anyone challenging the Shins either got Chalerm making his usual highly subtle threats or Tharit threatening to sue them for a contravening a law he'd just usually made up.

He also let Yingluck off with committing perjury arguing that only the person actually standing trial can commit perjury not someone giving evidence!

He switched sides to feather his own nest and lost. Oh dear, how sad, never mind!

What happened to the charges of land encroachment against him?

Tharit deserves every day of his sentence. Remember the road that went through his land, about 1 meter from his house and on to public land, he failed to notice it. Of course it was all a lie, he was encroaching on public land. About the best thing you can say about him is that he was equally crooked on both sides of the drama back then. No praise intended.
