Prayut and coup-generated Constitution must go to save country: Thanathorn

Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha must go and also the laws, the regulations, the judicial system and the Constitution designed by the National Council for Peace and Order, or else the country would face the same problems again, Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit warned.

The former leader of the dissolved Future Forward Party was reacting through a Facebook post to the Election Commission (EC) seeking to press further criminal charges against him over his shareholding of V-Luck media and loan to Future Forward.

In his message, Thanathorn argued that the EC was accusing him of applying for a position of representative -- member of Parliament -- while it acknowledged that he was unable to apply due to his disqualification. This showed that the political system generated by a coup was trying to eliminate him from Thai politics.

However, this system has lost its legitimacy since it used powers to eliminate its enemies and oppress people in the country to seek benefits for its followers, he said.

The obvious evidence was the failed management of the Covid-19 crisis by the government that was still looking for profit while the people had to suffer from the consequences.

This kind of political system should never exist, Thanathorn said.

Every single thing that is army generated, including the ridiculous new constitution must go. Including Prayuth, and the entire army. They are a boil on the face of the nation.

Absolutely right but what can people do about it? These lot aren't going to go without a fight. It's clear they have zero morals and will do whatever it takes to stay in power.

Get organized, as they would do in a 'Western' country. 1 million people on the streets of BKK is hard to ignore ...

Hear hear!
Even if they have minority government the senate will step in and keep them in power.

The problem with Thai politics is that no matter how righteous this new party appears, I doubt it’d be long before corruption and greed showed it’s ugly head amongst its members if the party were to get into power.  Not saying they shouldn’t be given a chance, but I’m skeptical.

Interesting comment. Khun Thanathorn mentioned in his recent talk at the FCCT that they didn't have enough time to vet all the applications for membership before the election and it seems plausible to assume he meant scaly people did get in.

His co presenter Khun Tiga at the FCCT seemed to agree and also seemed to be indicating their new party 'MOVE' will be much more careful about this and have enough time to check the membership applications.

He seems to be a very intelligent and strategic young man, he certainly has an impressive education and past performance track record and is a good speaker and IMHO he would be watching any pitfalls and analysing what happened to FF and being very careful about falling into traps.

Let's hope so.

True but is it really that simple?

Are there others silent players who are powerful and are controlling the whole thing?

Apparently not, loads here cheered for the coup despite the warnings that previous coups all ended up setting the country further back.

3 months of large nationwide demos and appealing to junior military to join up (not hard to do with the appallingly-treated conscripts) could sweep away the whole disgusting feudal system ...

I hope this guy has good security. He is certainly painting a larger and larger target on his back.

I wonder, is he setting himself up to be jailed, to start his "movement", and gambling on his international exposure to ensure that he survives?

Could be, but a brave move if true. I don't think the current powers that be care too much about international exposure, and it would be very easy to get rid of Thanathorn with an outwardly plausible death if they were able to get him in jail.

Yep,  he could do an Epstein within days of going to jail. ????

Absolutely. The only big worry is how their establishment protects one key figure.

When will Thanathorn wake up hospitalized?

Or does that only count for poorer people?

In every barrel there are a few 'bad apples'.....????????????????????????????????

Now it is heating up or shall I say stirring the Regimes cauldron. We would hope that the someone who he is talking about choked upon hearing this.

Yes, Yes, Yes ................... and Yes.

Time to go.

but how will they get there? who will hold their collective hands? who is gonna buy them their free lunch? who will provide transport? how will they organise? and so on and so on.

Thai people are not taught to think independently, so they can't think for themselves. It is unfortunate, but true. ???? I genuinely worry for them and their future. ????

Point taken, but I suspect your totally missing my point.

The stuff I'm reading on widely shared social and the bravery of the voices that are being found are stunning in the Thai context - whole swathes of Thai society are losing their fear whilst the elites must be growing at the same rate. My money is if push comes to shove then the boys in green may shove the most obvious target under a bus to save their own skins. They have previous 'form' after all.

All the people of Thailand just have one big strike and say they’re not going back to work to this government shut down in the heads of the government should go on trial for being corrupt TIT

It needs a total clean out of the whole political system - problem is that with most governments needing to form coalitions, the same old cronies will slip and slide between parties. But Tu must go

Experience elsewhere (eg Latin America, Sudan, Algeria ... ) suggests that you need first big civilian demos, then parts of the military change sides, then the future is open ... and anything, good or bad, can happen.

What the civilians achieve is to destroy the old as currently established. The old may rebound but - as in Algeria currently - it may be only a temporary shadow of itself, provided the civilians keep up their efforts.
