BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand issued a new coronavirus warning to the party-going public on Friday after a cluster of 13 cases was traced to a group of friends who shared cigarettes and drinks.

Sukhum Kanchanapimai, the health ministry's permanent secretary, told reporters some friends who met up were responsible for the highest daily jump of 11 new coronavirus cases, reported on Thursday.

"There was inappropriate behaviour, sharing drinks, cigarettes and not avoiding social activities after returning from an at-risk country," Sukhum said.

One of the friends had been earlier been in contact with tourists from Hong Kong.

"Don't share cigarettes and drinks," Sukhum warned.

Thailand on Friday raised its official coronavirus count by five cases on Friday, bringing the total to 75.

Three of the cases reported on Friday are connected to a confirmed patient who returned from South Korea and went out with friends and family, including the three, to an entertainment venue before being quarantined, he said.

Officials were monitoring the condition of eight other people linked to that case.

One person has died of the virus in Thailand. Thirty-five people have recovered and been discharged from hospital.

....and at the daily health briefing in hong kong (yes, they have a daily Q&A for reporters), the hong kong authorities have denied any knowledge of an infected resident returning from thailand.

  • They don't forget the important part. Root cause: evil, virus spreading foreigners.

looks like the new & improved version of "brake failure."

75, so if the numbers double every 6 days...it will be 150 on the 19th and 300 on the 25th....unless something unusual happens...like sharing fags...and drinks too?  How soon before Thailand joins the 1000+ club?

Hmmmmm, So I guess 3 people swapping bodily fluids is also a no no then.

Maybe, having a Latex fetish is not going to be looked upon in a negative way anymore? (Speaking on behalf of a friend)

Not to mention sharing spit and spunk!

Therein are the problem when authorities have to tell that to their citizens in 2020. Covid-19 or not.

If you care, don’t share, says health official

Evidently reacting to some the most recently confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection in Thailand, the deputy health minister has urged people to not share food, drinks or other personal items and told restaurant managers to adhere to ministry precautions.

Sathit Pitutecha said on Friday (March 13) the country had just gained nearly a dozen more virus infections thanks to people partying with a Hong Kong visitor and freely sharing items by which the disease can be transmitted.

“If you live with or socialise with others, take care of your personal health by not sharing eating utensils, drinking glasses or other personal items with anyone who seems to be showing flu-like symptoms,” he said.

Restaurants must be thoroughly cleaned daily with special attention paid to kitchens, tables, washrooms, doorknobs and plates and cutlery, Sathit said, and food has to be well cooked and clean.

“Any employee who touches the food plates and feels sick has to stay away from the restaurant and see a doctor immediately."

“Restaurants with buffets must provide separate tongs and serving spoons for each diner’s table.”

Dr Panpimol Wipulakorn, director-general of the Department of Health, added restaurant managers and staff who discover that a customer has recently returned from an at-risk locale and not undergone a 14-day self-quarantine must close shop to disinfect the tables, chairs and utensils.

“And people who use food delivery services should check that the food is hot and appears clean and should wash their hands with soap and water before and after eating,” she said.

"Don't share cigarettes and drinks," Sukhum warned.

After 180 years this is a mind numbing statement!  "... the relationship between germ and disease were conducted by Louis Pasteur between the year 1860 and 1864..."

Does this mean that 10 people shouldn't eat out of a common bowl of soup using the 1 or 2 available spoons?  Does this mean you should wash your hands before digging into a container of sticky rice?
