Itthiphol Kunplome, Culture Minister

The Culture Ministry’s Department of Cultural Promotion has been told to start imposing strict controls on gaming centres, karaoke shops and video shops in a bid to slow the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Minister Itthiphol Kunplome said the worldwide spread of the virus forces the government to make sure all forms of business have in place intensive screening, monitoring, prevention and control measures.

“My ministry and our affiliated authorities have been ordered to strictly follow the measures announced by the government and continuously report the results of the screening, surveillance, prevention and control.”

The Department of Cultural Promotion will work with the owners and operators of gaming centres and karaoke and video shops to set up these preventive measures, Itthiphol said.

“The department will have them clean their premises and equipment and install hand-sanitising checkpoints,” he said.

“The department will also ask the governors of 76 provinces to order their provincial cultural offices to survey and advise the operators of these kinds of places to do the same.”
