This is most likely because Germans have been pioneers in respiratory disease medicine and have excellent medical facilities, a very good health system and the best doctors in the world.

 

The Germans have provided three times the intensive care beds the UK has, for instance. A German company is a market leader in respirators.

 

The fact that all the other countries with large numbers of cases have deaths but Germany does not underlines this.

I read an article the other day where the theory was that a certain chunk of the population have a level of resistance if they had a certain flu that was going around a couple of years ago, it just so happends that having a certain strain of the normal flu a couple of years ago gives an immunity to covid, similar to getting harmless cowpox years ago gave a resistance to smallpox.

I would like to correct an earlier statement, Germany has had 44 deaths now.

 

With 15,000 (150,000) infected that still compares favourably with say the UK which has 2700 (27000) cases and not 44 but 137 deaths.

people who died yesterday were probably infected over 4 to 6 weeks ago, expectations are that numbers will still increase the next 2 weeks or so...then decline if the lockdown effectively slows the spreading
