Bangchak Corp will be offering alcohol-based hand sanitiser free of charge at its 200 Bangkok area service stations starting on Monday (March 23) and no fill-up or other purchase is required.

President and chief executive Chaiwat Kovavisarach said there will be gel dispensers at the stations from which anyone can fill a lidded container daily from 10am to 1pm (while the supply lasts).

The participating stations are listed at www.facebook.com/Bangchak and www.bangchakmarketplace.com.

“I invite you to bring a lidded container to fill with the alcohol gel without refuelling or receiving other services at our stations,” Chaiwat said. “However, people should only take 50 millilitres at most so others also have the chance to get some.”

Bangchak now has all station employees wearing facemasks and washing their hands regularly, and complete sanitising takes place every 15 days.

And all those living outside Bangkok? Oh wait a minute, there is no Thailand outside Bangkok, well nobody worth bothering about anyway!

It’s down to the individual person or company to decide what level of protection they offer to the public, some take it seriously, some ignore it and some just want to be seen to be doing the right thing.

We cannot rely on any gas station or shopping mall or supermarket to offer us the protection we need, we have to take those precautions for ourselves.

In Ayutthaya I see a mixed response:

some retailers provide sanitizer gel on their counter or outside their stores while others don’t, and some have the sanitizer gel bottle in place but clearly empty for days on end.

Some retailers see it as a public duty to provide these services, others do not.

Big C complex have a “ Temperature check station “ unmanned at only one of their 3 entrances ( no temperature checks being undertaken ).

Makro have a temperature check and suspension of the parking card.

Homemart ( SCG ) clean the shopping cart handle for you and point to the table where there is a plentiful supply of sanitizer gel.

A rather long winded post ?

The short answer:

At this stage of the game everyone must make their own protection rules:

Mask - no mask

Isolate - mingle

Sanitise - no sanitisation

Don’t rely on others for your safety !
