It's the airlines. They have never been good business. Too many risks.  Amazon basically functions as the de facto medical, food, and essential goods distributor. Google and Apple... will have more money than the government soon if this keeps up.

Here is what one of the greatest CEO of all time said about the company he ran American Airlines.

“I’ve never invested in any airline. I’m an airline manager. I don’t invest in airlines. And I always said to the employees of American, ‘This is not an appropriate investment. It’s a great place to work and it’s a great company that does important work. But airlines are not an investment.’”

-Robert Crandall

Agreed on Amazon's packaging however these days it is made out of very young trees. We have more wood pulp than you can shake a box at these days and it's sustainable.

For this maybe the government should get involved airlines will always have problems weather, war, disease, economics, fuel prices...

The airlines have to be bailed out that isn't even in question.

And the airlines should have access to loans. Not grants. And let us not forget the reason why travel within the US is so expensive is consolidation. That was a huge mistake to allow it to happen. Really tragic for the American people.

Yes. The excellence of Thailand's response to Covid clearly supports your evaluation.

Democrats trying to act like angels...painting republicans as devils. As usual playing politics to derail vital legislation. We've seen this movie before. Fiddling while the US burns.

  • Watching the US shows that it is actually a third world country run by politicians who live only for their party games. It makes Thailand look positively organised and decisive, which of course it is

What provision of the bill makes it a "slush fund" with no strings attached?

Or, more relevant, where did you obtain your talking point?

Laziness is stating unsubstantiated information as fact.

Regarding your source, I point you to the very first sentence:  "A senior Republican Senate aide tells NRO:"

I thought Trump supporters didn't like anonymous sources.

I think the real question is why the hell are democrats trying to add in global warming and illegal immigrant provisions to a corona virus bill.....Why are Democrats using this plague to push their own agenda instead of taking care of the people...is it a 500 bill slush fund or is it loans that will need to be paid back...can you even trust anything the democrats say after pulling this stunt. While I wouldn't fully trust the republicans I don't see them pushing funding for the wall and their agenda into a corona virus bill!!

These are truly some of the most despicable people in the Govt. It's no wonder congress has such abysmal approval ratings.

BTW 55% approve of Trumps handling of the current crisis. Too bad the dems are trying to weaponize it.

If Dems succeed to power in Nov. we are all well and truly in a world of <deleted>.

I think the question is how true are the unsourced claims about what Democrats are trying to do that keep getting posted here.

Give credible sources for your claims or don't post.

True, but only after eventually trying to put together a huge support package together (no info on planning when the massive national debt will commence wind back) and declaring some restrictions. trump is now trying to wind back restrictions against the advise of his senior medical adviser. Polls will sink like a stone if trump starts the same uninformed propaganda as when Covid first began to spread in the US.

All you have to do is watch McConells speech (on the congressional record) before the senate today to understand the Dems priorities. Not difficult to understand what is important to them; and it is not the average American public.

Are you  referring to when he closed the border to try to prevent the spread? while the Dems were busy trying to impeach him; only taking time out to label him as xenophobic and rascist.

One thing is certain. If Americans don't get back to work the economy will tank for a very long time. If the companies can continue to survive with assistance and businesses are returning to work and employment opportunities for the average American continue... the economy will bounce back.

The democrats are trying to get relief to the people who most need it, and the Republicans want to give the money to corporations AGAIN!!!!

The Democrats  want to include a $200 increase in SS payments until 2021 to assist the elderly and  disabled, and Mcconnell wants to tie it to the 2018 tax  return, knowing damn well that  anyone that started receiving SS after that date will not get it even if they need it,  And that many receiving SS might not have filed that year.

He says it for transparency so that $200 will not go to those who don't need it. At the same time he is trying to pass a 1/2 a trillion slush fund  for trump to distribute to whom ever he likes and he does not have to tell as who gets it for six months.

You all might be stupid enough to buy what trump and the republicans are selling but we are not buying it!!!

Talk about "fiddling while Rome burns"  That is what is currently going on. No, she says, "we will introduce our own bill"  How long will that take to wind it's way through the annals of congress, when they aren't even in session? How is tracking the carbon footprint of aircraft (in Dems bill) aiding and assisting the American public during this crisis?  I won't bother to list the rest of the green new deal included. As they say, Rohm Emanual, "Never let a crisis go to waste"

Take 20 minutes to watch Mcconells address  on the senate floor.

Talk about the castle cheering for the butchers while heading to the slaughter house

"Here’s why Senate Democrats want to give Social Security beneficiaries an extra $200 per month amid coronavirus scare "

"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., put forward a proposal last week that included Social Security income. However, because the plan uses income from 2018 tax returns as a qualifier, it could leave out those who don’t file with the IRS because their income is too low. "

What should he use? income qualifiers from 2020 or 2021?  Really? For sure if nobody is working, that will not add to their SS allowance. At that point, I suspect your income would be quite low if any.

Use Nothing!!

everyone who collects SS gets the extra $200. I realise that some who don't need it might get it, but we are not about to cut our nose of to spite our face.

I did not understand anything after the first sentence of this post.

I am not surprised. If the economy shuts down, you will not have an income. If you don't have any income for 2020 then your 10 year (40 quarters) will decrease your eventual SS income.

I personally already receive SS but I would sacrifice any increase for the benefit of those more in need. BTW  I am not rich and could use an extra 200$/month.

2020 income taxes haven't even been recorded so how is the Govt supposed to assess that?

we are not talking about eventual income we are talking about assistance to the ones most adversely affected by the virus NOW!!,  the elderly who are dying at a much higher rate, can't go out of their houses.

1/2 trillion to the rich and you are defending the republicans trying to screw the elderly out of $200 !!

Yeah, you are right... I don't get it, but at least I wont have to  read anymore pure BS. I agree to giving assistance to those who need it now, but not to Planned Parenthood or subsidies for anything unrelated to the current crises.  Wind and solar farms? I think that can be viewed at some point in the future.  Not now.

If you don't believe what I am telling you all you need to do is look at Pelosi"s  opposition to the bill being discussed.  Reducing aircraft carbon footprints?  To quote Uncle Joe " comon man"

No. BTW now that Covid is in all States of the US, do you remember the pearl of wisdom below from trump?

"A virus that starts in China, bleeds its way into various countries all around the world, doesn't spread widely at all in the United States because of the early actions that myself and my administration took,

They are effectively cheering on money being opaquely dispersed to corporations at the behest of the Donald, with no oversight.

Fast forward 6 months. Massive share buybacks, big bonuses paid out to CEO's, everyone patting themselves on the back cause the 'trickle down' theory had worked, yet again, in making sure the CEO's weren't out of jobs.

Afterall, its only socialism if you help poor people.

carbon footprint of aircraft (in Dems bill)

You should find it informative to understand exactly what the Dems are offering, Some of the Dem's line items are proposing to fulfil airline industry request, which the GOP package has failed to do. IMO fair enough to request transitioning to a lower carbon footprint if they are offering billions in grants. I'm sure you will remember trump's insistence quid pro quo is perfectly acceptable.

This is not the time to add a lot of pork to the bill.  Pretty basic concept. Review carbon footprint later. Not when the country and people are in need of jobs and employment. Boeing, whether you like them or not, employ 1000's and their suppliers employ 1000's more, ergo sustenance for the working guy or gal.
