Four nurses stranded in Cambodia are desperately trying to get back to the UK before the country closes its borders.

Valerie Travis, 60, and Anna Williams, 52, from Broadgreen and Elaine Moorley, 62, and Diane Thomlinson, 47, from Wigan, were due to return home from the capital Phnom Penh with Emirates on Monday, but their flight was cancelled the day before.

The group who work together as mental health nurses in Warrington, used their credit cards to book onto the next available flight, flying back to the UK on Friday, March 27 via Hong Kong.

But due to border restrictions in Hong Kong amid the coronavirus pandemic, this has also now been cancelled.

Wimbledon boy stranded in Cambodia due to coronavirus outbreak

A Wimbledon boy has been left stranded in Cambodia after all flights were cancelled following the coronavirus outbreak

But after booking the earliest possible flights home with Emirates - due to leave March 25 - they became stranded when all their flights were cancelled.

"The British Embassy offered little to no advice and we were not even welcomed into the building," he said.

There own fault really, I was in Cambodia in the 20th and got an email ....... all flights out cancelled from mid-night.

So I hopped into a tuk-tuk to the airport and convinced check-in to let me board their last flight out.

Staying another 7 days would have been madness.

You could see what was going to happen.
