A British couple who were celebrating their anniversary in Thailand fear they may be trapped there for months after Emirates cancelled flights home.

Leanne and Rob Ashworth say they've been left with no information or hope of getting home after the travel company decided to axe all flights for two weeks starting from Wednesday.

The couple flew out before travel restrictions were put in place, reports Lancashire Live.

Leanne, 40, said: “We stayed in Pattaya for five nights then headed over to Koh Chang which is nearly seven hours away, then things started to change drastically.

“That’s when I tried calling Emirates for advice and information. When I called I would be in a queue and then after an hour it would tell me they could not answer my call, and hang up.

This is entirely their own fault.  There have been lots of warnings for weeks telling people not to travel.

Absolutely correct... Anyone who has traveled for pure leisure reasons within the past couple weeks needs therapy... There have been enough warning signs so they only have themselves to blame !!

Theyre not exactly unique. There are probably thousands of people in the same position right now. It's not news.

I saw this coming back in early Feb. I started stocking up back then and people told me I was overreacting. There is no way on gods green earth I would have allowed myself on a plane even back then unless absolutely necessary. If you bury your face in Britains Got Talent and Eastenders etc and just assume there is a competent higher power looking after your interests at all times....you are sorely mistaken.

Reading live reports on Facebook , while many flights are cancelled , plenty of seats still available but 1300-1500 pounds one way , economy

Hold on folks, the ride is going to be a little bit bumpy!

Very ignorant and uninformed it seems.

I did not even need to read the mirror article about them to know they would complain about no money.

Gofundme I bet soon.

Good luck..

No sympathy whatsoever from me.

You roll the dice then you face the music.

Should have stayed in Chorley.

Saying that, I can see why they wanted out ????

What if they don't have any money to stay beyond their original two weeks?

Lots of people come on holiday with just enough to last and maybe 100 quid for an emergency.

You do not mean...people do not have a safety net ....well now then, I am flabbergasted.  How really can people live from one day to the next, and be world travelers if they don't create savings, and when faced with a dilemma still decide to spend the Fcuck all and not thing about tomorrow.

"I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today"  Yes Wimpy, keep up the magic borrowing and kicking the can down the road....one day the can will fall into a large hole and so will you.....Now Thai people for the lower end of society live one day to the next....

Nah, It's entirely normal for most of the world, live hand to mouth, holidays with minimum money and no backup.

Did it myself in my 20s and 30s, as an old guy you've forgotten what it's like to be young.

I've got total sympathy for them, nobody thought the world was going to end last Friday.

When was the last time nearly all flights everywhere were cancelled .......... never.

What always amazes me is the fairly good looking western guys bringing absolute chubby mingers with them to Thailand.

Have white men lost all respect for themselves?

This is what happens when people have an entitled life

Something goes wrong and they shìt their pants, demand answers

I'm waiting on a new passport but I'm calm and ready for whatever happens in the next few months.

They don't look unhappy.

I have always been suspected of needing therapy,  especially after doing a Rorschach test - (google it  ???? )   Something about me seeing murderous visions which included my mother.

Oh well,  I did travel (from Chiangmai)  and am now holed up in one of those cheap bungalows, though i should brag like some posters and say that it is a Chalet  55

Not needing to leave Thailand .... I am very pleased to be in clean air with walks along the beach

to help pass the time.  If we are not all locked up , like in some science fiction novel, then

hopefully this too shall pass.

I travelled alot when I was younger with pretty much no money ... but Thailand has'nt been the place to do that for a long time. I bet they are not paying 30bht a night for a beach hut 10 metres from the sea on Koh Chang like i did.

EDIT : Your 2nd paragraph I was thinking ... he could do better than that

If all they have is 100 quid to their name then they shouldn't be traveling at all!

Are there still people that not realized that they always need a buffer? Unfathomable, after so much economical advises everywhere.

Even more stupid, to blow all money on travelling. There is just a big lack of brains in the world.

Yeah, what do I do? What do I care? Nah, not much. I just take another Chang, and sit down looking out on the world. Calling for another delivery of canned and dried food.

Take care out there!

I think your case is completely different to the couple in question...

Seems they expected to come on an incident free holiday, half way round the world in the middle of a pandemic !! Ooooops, that back fired...
