Cigna Global: Working from home top tips

Working from home can be a challenging time. We at Cigna Global are specialists in expat healthcare, so we have gathered these five tips to help you stay healthy and maintain a good work-life balance whilst working from home.

Make a plan

Studies suggest that when working from home, you may struggle to switch off.  It will help if you make a plan. For example, plan ahead for the daily tasks you need to do, take regular screen breaks and remember to eat a balanced diet.

Especially when working from home, this is an essential tip for those looking to maintain a healthy routine. Making a plan will help you to focus and maintain a good work-life balance.

Take regular breaks

Pick a room that you are not working in to take these breaks; it’s a change of scenery from your workspace and it will help take your mind of things. If you are looking for a quick bite to eat, try to resist the temptation to eat next to your laptop and take a break away from your work instead.

Maintain contact with others

Social interactions with colleagues don’t have to stop once you are working from home. In today’s world, we are lucky enough to have plenty of ways to maintain contact outside of the office.

So that’s why it is so important to still have those interactions with your work colleagues. You can still have the water cooler chats and desk banter, but done through things like Skype or WhatsApp. Keep in touch with them; make sure they are all doing ok.

Remain focused

Keeping focused will be key for those looking to stay healthy whilst working from home. Think carefully about your own mental health and remember to reach out to someone if you feel like you are struggling.

Chances are that you will probably open your laptop before your normal 9am start, as you have no travel to work and you are just rolling out bed to get to the office. So it’s more important than ever that your working day does not encroach into your personal life.

Remember to adopt a good work life balance, make sure you are finishing your days’ work at a normal time and not leaving your laptop for after you have had your dinner when you should be settling down for the night to relax.

Don’t forget to exercise

Last but not least, exercise. This is still important to make sure you are still getting some exercise during the day. Exercise is good for the body and mind so this is important to do when possible.

At lunchtime, instead of turning on the TV or playing video games, try getting outside for a walk. Even a small bit of exercise will be helpful for you to break up your day.
