Committee set up to find those responsible for organising March 6 boxing event

Army chief General Apirat Kongsompong on Thursday (March 26) ordered the setting up of a committee to find the people responsible for holding a competition in Lumpinee Boxing Stadium on March 6.

The boxing stadium, which is under the management of the Royal Thai Army, has been the hotbed for the spread of the new coronaviris (Covid-19) in Thailand, prompting demands by Thai netizens to hold the Army accountable.

The holding of the event could be deemed a violation of a government diktat, after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, on March 3, ordered all public gathering locations such as sports stadiums to be closed.

The private sector was allowed to hold a public gathering if it strictly followed the Public Health Ministry guidelines while the authorities of the public sector were ordered to consider the appropriateness of the gathering before granting permission.

Why would they investigate who set it up, there was no orders in place at the time were there to limit such venues?.  So its a mute point and a waste of money as I see it.

Could be not just phone whoever is in charge of the stadium and ask.

Watch this space for the 'Committee's' findings....in about five years time !

They need a serious  finger pointing re-think. Instead they should focus on the person who allowed a mass evacuation of Bkk to all four corners of Thailand and beyond.

After the Korat tragedy a list of army activities and ownerships was drawn up. Boxing arenas and horse racing centres were suppose to be disposed of back to dept of Finance. Obviously we need a committee to check why that wasnt done too.

Sorry they were influential persons.

The Army, Police and others seemingly have their fingers into everything. Cash flowing, unregulated by those who may be benefiting from this chaos. Pathetic.

Yeah..they should confine them to BKK , jobless/money-less to starve to death.

Lay down the crack pipe pls

What a joke.  The investigation should zero in like a laser on the General, himself.  Total jerk and moron.

I immediately recalled a scene from the movie “Casablanca” when I saw this topic.

”Round up the usual suspects.”

In that case can we expect the resignation of Army chief General Apirat Kongsompong anytime soon.

As the big wig he would have to take responsibility for the incident. Not, that he was involved - it was organized by one of his underlings who bluntly ignored if not purposely disregarded an army order.

As it happened during Apirat's watch, the army might be in need of a new army chief general?

Well according to those two sentences they held the event 3 days after they were told that they should close.

It was recently announced by the top man that the number of generals in the armed forced are to be reduced by 50 per cent.  Is this the way to start that process?  Just out of curiosity, why has it taken so long to decide to order the formation of a committee to investigate a straight forward and blatant disregard of a law supposedly set in place before the event by the one in charge of the country?  Didn't he get his share first?  Usually military justice follows a chain of command process.

'nuf sed.

Thailand = the land of Generals; would assume that Thailand has more generals than entire Europe ????

Just arrest the top fifty generals, including Prayuth and Prawit, and jail them without trial. Problem solved. Guilty parties caught and dealt with.

By my reckoning he has only got 6 months or so left in post - doesn't he retire in October? Maybe he looks so upset because it looks like the plague has put the mockers on the traditional pre retirement coup?

They need a committee to determine the organizers?  They didn't need a permit?

"...it also reported that there is one general for every 660 lower-ranking members.

In comparison, the troop-based ratio for the U.S. Army, where the number of generals is capped by Congress, is about one general to every 1,600 enlisted personnel."

Thailand has about 1,750 generals.
