LONDON (Reuters) - Britain’s navy said on Thursday it had shadowed seven Russian warships after detecting high levels of activity by Russian vessels off its coastline.

“The Navy has completed a concentrated operation to shadow the Russian warships after unusually high levels of activity in the English Channel and North Sea,” the Royal Navy said.

stay tuned, new empire doing its initial steps, already looking for ripples to rule

not bad, her navy still being in posession of devices that are in operation and floats . . .

How would you suggest the UK deals with with Russian Warships, send out a flotilla of boats with bunting tied to their masts to escort them up the Thames to Tilbury Docks and help them off load their gifts of polonium. ????????

you seem to be well informed, loaded with polonium are they, the Russian men of war?

do you have to "deal" with ships in international waters?

at least, you are not (yet) as bad as the navy/coast guard across the pond,

routinely using brutal force to bother and harass private vessels in international waters

I hope you are not referring to Russia as a new empire.   They are not much more than glorified gas station.

We should have offered them cash for those rust buckets for scrap. Seems to be just the usual round of mutual willy-waving of mines bigger than yours.

Face up to them, that's what. Ruskies know exactly what they're doing. Do the same there or to the US or China and see what the reaction is. Suggest lobbing over a COVID-19 present onto their decks. Idiots. With everything that's going on.

They just simply testing responses, just as they do while flying near Alaska. But if this pandemic kills all year, I have no doubt that they will invade and China will invade Taiwan.

Russia will invade what? if you are suggesting Russia would attempt to invade uk you must have had a few drinks tonight that would start ww3 and they know it.

I heard Putin gives one week holidays to Russians. Why all of you are worried? They are just In trip to Pattaya, China sea is closed!

The only people that are worried are the people that don't realise that this happens all the time we are always testing how they react and they are always testing how we react its been going on since the 80s.

You are the expert, the op states "off its coastal waters" you say "international waters" are they the same?

As a matter of interest, what ships have we got left guard the North Sea. we don't even seem to have enough patrol boats to guard the English Channel, But we do have 2 big glorious aircraft carriers, which are too expensive and risky putting out to sea.

Britain spends the same amount on defence as Russia, Russian  Economy is approximately the same size as italy,

Putin is on a mission to try and make Russia a world power again while one in five Russians live below the poverty line,

Putin was a KBG foot Soldier before he rose to power , Now one of the richest men in the world, Not by corruption though ,  (Sarcastic)

depends a bit on who you ask

if you ask UNCLOS, then largely yes, they will be off UK and UK law

UNCLOS use the term territorial waters, thats max 12 wet miles off the base line, meaning low water mark,

be off that and you are in non-UK or off-UK

as far as the Channel is concerned UK (and France) both do a lot of quality surveillance

by means of radiocommunication - long range radar - ais - shipboard observations

It would not surprise me at all if this was all part of a big plan by China and Russia, who have already included the Covid-19 vaccine in their annual flu jab

Ships testing the readiness of foreign countries by deliberately sailing close to territorial waters. Just like flying their strategic bombers close to foreign air space which Russia did again last week. And does fairly regularly.

Vlad probing to see if this virus is having any effect on readiness. Of course, he's lucky that there's not one single infection in the Russian Federation. ????

Two paper tigers rattling their sabers at each other.

Russia hasn't been a naval power since the collapse of the Soviet Union.  Each naval exercise brings their remaining ships closer to decommissioning or a fatal fire.

While the UK's HMS QE carrier still hasn't been commissioned for duty, not that they'll get their full complement of F-35s until after 2022.

Think the Russians were on the way to pick up their online order from Asda but have been outsmarted by the panic buyers and no pound for the trolly ????

Wouldn’t the point of empire building be to change these numbers?

anyway, it’s not that big a step for Russia to climb into the top half dozen listed (given your unsupported figures), it’s really only the empire of the United States that is obscenely wealthy (again, your point) .... and that there is perhaps cause enough to push a new world order

Naval power is a factor of policing an empire. Modern warfare is not as dependent on sea trade or routes, as has been the case. You don’t need ships to sabre rattle when you own hundreds of nukes. Calling Russia toothless seems more arrogant than naive.
