Speedo1968
I regularly watch downloaded tv series on my laptop ( don't have tv ). Many of these series have English subtitles especially Nordic Noir series. In a recent 'dailymotion. download to my laptop of a Swedish series, the first few episodes had almost properly timed English subs, however, following episodes are well out of sync with subs several seconds behind the spoken words. It makes for a nonsensical action in some cases and the video is not worth watching. Is the this from the episode downloaded on to Dailymotion or my downloading on to my laptop ? I suspect the former but if it is the later how to try and resolve ? I use VLC Media Player and have managed to sync spoken words with action when there was a lag, and correct images where they are reversed.
NCC1701A
so you are using the G and H keys in VLC to move subtitles relative to video? 8 minutes ago, Speedo1968 said: I use VLC Media Player
johng
2 minutes ago, Speedo1968 said: following episodes are well out of sync with subs several seconds behind the spoken words First I would try downloading a new subtitle file from somewhere like opensubtitles.org https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/search/subs or you can try to re-sync with a program called Subtitle edit https://www.nikse.dk/subtitleedit it can be a bit of a kerfuffle to get them in sync. if they are internal/encoded subtitles ie not a separate subtitle file you,ll need to manually select the new file in preference to the internal out of sync ones..though normally internal subs stay in sync in my experience
Daffy D
You could give this program a try:- https://subshifter.bitsnbites.eu/ Personally I've never had much success in syncing subs and usually look for new subs as johng recommends.

Sorry perhaps my comments were a bit unclear, I meant that I have been able to sync the 'spoken' word with action ( by way of the tools menu in VLC ) not adjust subtitles with action. Have never tried G and H keys does this reverse the image on screen as well

I get a message top of screen when viewing and pressing keys "No Active Subtitles". The first 3 episodes were fine, the next few difficult to watch, now episode 8 seems better. The series is Danish / Swedish called Greyzone ( download with DM ) and the translation to English is not very good although the series itself is. Will keep the G H in mind for next time, thanks again.
