The Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct slapped a former chief of the Ubon Ratchathani provincial administrative organization with 20 years in prison over corruption.

Pornchai Kowsurat was accused by the National Anti-Corruption Commission of making an illegal advance payment of Bt4.4 million for the purchase of teaching materials.

Pornchai was also accused in several other cases, such as illegally procuring bridge and road construction projects.

How long ago was he removed from his post? My friend in Ubon mentioned that within the past few months, there's suddenly been a rash of road projects messing up traffic, around the Rajabhat uni, and the bridge leading out to the Central mall. He said it didn't make any sense as these weren't affected by the massive flooding they had after the rainy season.

All sounds a bit fishy to me, compared to other sentences for other crimes, 20 years sounds a bit excessive. No real details of his procurement details, or personal gains from such dealings given,

Have the Anti Graft Commission found a scapegoat to suggest they are still working on the problem ??????????

To be fair, the media jury has not been given any evidence of any wrong doing.

I live in Ubon Ratchathani and I have always liked Pornchai. Very pleasant chap. I think he is being used as a scapegoat. Years ago he had the local branch of TNT and I shipped my seed through him. He had contacts everywhere. When he was PAO chief he helped us with village agriculture projects. I think he also developed the big Sports stadium complex on the northern outshirts of Ubon city. I drive pass his former house estate quite often and it is now in a state of disrepair. I hear that there are other well-known Ubon names also under investigation. I wonder if they will get 20 years?
