Banks to resume full services from April 7

All banks will resume normal services on Tuesday (April 7), including opening new accounts and PromptPay registration services that had been temporarily suspended since last week to reduce crowding at the banks’ branches in an attempt to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The joint announcement came on Saturday from Bank of Thailand, Thai Bankers’ Association, Association of International Banks and Specialised Financial Institutions.

The announcement also said that banks were advised to manage the number of customers receiving services at their branches by giving queue cards, limiting the number of customers allowed in the bank at any given time, as well as maintaining a distance between persons as suggested by Ministry of Public Health.

To emphasise the well-being and safety of customers, employees and the general public, banks were encouraged to recommend customers to open accounts, link accounts with PromptPay and make financial transactions via electronic and online channels. These channels, such as ATM/CDM, mobile banking and internet banking, are available as normal. You can register your bank account for PromptPay at ATM or via online channels without having to visit branches.

Customers wanting to register for the government’s Bt5,000 cash handout do not have to visit a bank. Registration can be done at anytime via [www.เราไม่ทิ้งกัน.com]. They can use an existing account with any bank, provided the name and surname of the bank account match those of the person registering. A person registering can also choose to receive payment into an account that is linked to PromptPay by a national ID card number.

thai mentality; not admitting they implemented a stupid policy and now will generate the new crowding that they will have exacerbated

Amazing!

Back to school also?

I expect many bankers will be too tired to work, as they are reported to be one of the few groups allowed out after curfew this weekend.

Does this include foreign currency exchanges?

Let’s see if full service includes foreign exchange.

Does this mean that Covid-19 can be transmitted only by Foreigner bank notes but not by Thai bank notes (or coins)?
