Chaturon slams government's handling of overseas Thais wanting to return

Chaturon Chaisang, a former member of the dissolved Thai Raksa Chart Party, wants overseas Thais to be able to return to their homeland despite the new directive restricting arrivals.

 

Chaturon posted a message on his Facebook account criticising the government’s new directive asking Thais who live overseas to postpone their return to Thailand.

 

He said the incident of 158 returnees from Japan, Qatar and Singapore shunning quarantine on Friday night showed the government did not have an effective procedure to cope with the Covid-19 crisis.

 

Some people did not even know whether they had to be in quarantine while the others were afraid of a substandard quarantine room or being forced to stay with other passengers who might be infected with Covid-19.

 

The officials also lacked a clear direction leading to turmoil at Suvarnabhumi Airport as the government had allowed international tourists to enter Thailand during a period of two to three months.

 

Regarding the restriction on Thais returning to their homeland, he said that the government should have facilitated their return long before the situation got worse.

 

The government’s move created the impression that those people were unwanted, which would cause hardship in management since, during this crisis, collaboration was the key, he said.

 

Chaturon said that Thai people who lived abroad should be able to return to their homes but the government must initiate an effective measure to quarantine them in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Too right .. The National carrier has got enough birds parked up to have facilitated repatriation flights ..

Must be even more galling to Thai's stranded abroad trying to get back to learn those disgusting foreigner's especially the International one's were continuing to enter ..

If you're being quarantined for the safety of the nation then you should also be afforded some safety for yourself.

 

Putting people in the same rooms as strangers is a disaster in the making.

 

One room, one person or family.

The only thing I don’t believe is that all those people returning home did not know about self quarantine. Every country on the planet has this procedure in place. Just more <deleted> and lies,these people on the plane had no communication with family members here in Thailand before returning. Had no idea what was going on in their home country. Blah,Blaa,Blaa.

They are not talking about self quarantine they are talking about compulsory government sanctioned quarantine.Even the Administration doesn't know whats going on here.

So the solution advocated by the government is the right one:
they stay where they are and these problems will not exist.

In Australia you don’t have a choice, as soon as you leave the arrival gate you are escorted to a waiting bus, no friends or relatives are allowed to meet you at the airport, you are then taken straight to a government designated hotel where you stay in a room for 14 days after which you are allowed to go home.

And that is how it should be done. Something like that should not be hard to do given the current situation. The problem here is the whole outdated hierarchical system where people believe they're important and above the rule of law.

 

The 'Do you know who I am?' syndrome is alive and well here.

and even then the ones they confine to the 5 star  rooms suppiled with food etc at no charge are whinging because they cant go outside for fresh air or sit on the beach or smoke, really getting pathetic, they chose to fly during the pandemic but dont like the results, claim they are locked in a prison cell

What about all those passengers allowed free from a cruise ship in NSW? Mistakes happen in other countries too.
