24 Thais from abroad warned their names will be published if they do not contact the authorities

Authorities are threatening to reveal the names of 24 Thais, who arrived at Suvarnabhumi international airport on Friday and returned home to avoid state quarantine, if they do not report in by 6pm today.

Immigration police commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang warned that the defiant returnees will also face penalties under the Emergency Decree and the Infectious Disease Act, which include two years in prison and/or a fine of 40,000 baht.

A total of 158 Thai passengers arrived at the airport Friday evening.  Several of them protested at having to enter quarantine at state facilities, claiming that they were not informed in advance.  A commotion ensued until two military officers intervened and spoke to the passengers, who were subsequently allowed to leave the airport.

For god's sake, thailand - you have the names and presumably the addresses - get off your butts and arrest them, like this freaking morning.

I'm with you. I thought the same thing yesterday. No fortune teller needed. Don't need a weatherman to see which way the wind blows.

It's just more of the same <deleted> reporting.  I did not believe for 1 second myself that they had all reported to police as put in the papers.  It's all about FACE.....nothing more.  This was a huge embarrassment for the government and statements made and actions taken after the fact are usually done to show strength.

Silly boy!  It's not an immigration issue and besides the cameras only recognise falaNG faces not Thai faces!  ????

Well with so many Thai people out of work and having no income, put a reward of 5000 baht on information leading to there arrest. I am sure there are millions of Thais looking for an opportunity to get some easy cash.

Why they wait the names and photos should be splashed over all the thai news every channel all day till they report.

Won't be long before they given up by some scared Thais.

If they don't report today they will just change and say 6pm tomorrow to report.

If they where farangs I think they would have been on the telly already.

We know tomorrow never comes.

Maybe take a leaf out Philippines book.

Kind of funny....

1- They have been back home since Friday so damage is irreversible what they carried they carried home to family & neighbors already.

2- Thai authority is always like this....."We request you turn yourself in"

Any other self respecting country would have looked at the arrival lists

Seen who was missing...gone straight to their home

tagged them & bagged them if they were not compliant

That was from US - the 158 people that argued and then avoided quarantine. At least that's how it was reported in other posts.

The time to do it right was Friday at the airport immediately upon their arrival. They should have been escorted directly to buses to take them into quarantine. No bs negotiation.

I'd like to predict it was someone else's fault!

Have you got that Somchai, Somsi! Now get your cheating butts back in there NOW!

I thought I read yesterday or Saturday that they had all come back... which would never have happened.

Some of the previous posts are accurate and pertinent. These people should be FORCED to come back.

I would say that for every day they don't, add one more week and 3 family members to the quarantine.

Other countries enforce that people are registered where they are living.

In Thailand these laws exist, but aren't enforced at all, so many people don't live where they are registered and the authorities don't know where these people are staying.

I think we all know that if there is no money to be made then the police will not act. SOP for the BIB in Thailand.
