Question re renewing US passport in Bangkok

Featured Replies

Embassy website says they have indefinitely suspended passport, etc., services. Is there any way other than via embassy I can get new passport, such as directly through State Dept? My passport does not expire until December, but my O-A stay is up for one-year extension in June. So if I can't get new passport by then, CW will only give me extension till passport validity in December, correct? Or can they give me one-year extension that can transferred into new passport when I am able to get the passport? They wouldn't deny me the extension if my passport does not have one-year validity, would they? I suppose there are others in my situation. Thanks for advice.

If they only give you a permission to stay stamp until December then you can apply for a one year of extension of stay in December. There is no rule that you have to get a second year. However, you will need your new passport before December. I'm just suggesting this to give you a little more time to sort out your passport issue.

You should contact the ACS about your problem. They could issue you a emergency passport if needed that would be valid for a year.

Your extension would only issued to the day your passport expires. You would then have to apply for a new extension after you get a new passport.
