There are two options for the GPS application. Maps and Asia Maps.

The Maps program is the main one, the Asia Maps is a 3rd party application

and not very useful.

The Maps application covers not only the whole of Thailand but the world.

When you move around ... say in Thailand ... the maps are updated for your particular location

via GPRS/EDGE without any user action other than selecting to open the application.

Remember the keyboard needs to be open as the GPS antenna is under the keys !

Can get a bit costly so better to get a bulk GPRS package from your phone provider.

Maps can also be downloaded free from Nokia saving on GPRS map downloads.

Naka.

There are no monthly access fees for maps? I mean, other than GPRS costs? That would be pretty cool.

I read somewhere that you have to subscribe to maps to get this service, like $10/month.

NIKSTER.

This is free for anyone with a suitable Nokia with Symbian 60/3 OS.

See link at the end.

Nokia Maps

1. a. Download the Nokia Maps application to your desktop. (about 3 meg)

b. Connect phone to PC in Nokia PC Suite mode.

c. Use 'Install Applications' in PC Suite to install the program to your phone memory

card ... not your phone memory.

2. Open the 'Maps' Application in your phone ... it is probably in the 'Applications' menu.

Note ... it is important to open the program once before going to step 3.

3. a. Download the 'Map Loader' setup program from the same link.

b. Run the program to install it on your PC.

c. Shut down your phone and take the memory card out and plug it into

your PC SD cad slot, (hope you have a SD card reader, you can do it

(via your USB link but not so fast).

d. Start 'Map Loader' and select which maps you want.

Tip. When in the Maps program, select OPTIONS/SETTINGS/NETWORK and set

USE NETWORK to NEVER ... Reason ... After loading the maps from your PC

you never need to use GPRS to download additional map data.

Caution. ALWAYS download maps to your phone memory card never to the phone

memory itself as the maps can be very large, ie, Thailand is more than 50 M.

Without a GPS module as in the N95, the only difference is that you are not told

where you are ... you need to find your location by yourself, however it is a great

little map in your pocket (so you don't look like a backpacker) it will show you

the nearest GoGo and then the nearest ATM :o

You can also set 'Landmarks' so you can zoom in on a particular location without

trying to figure out where it is on a map of the country (not an issue with the N95

which will take you there via GPS)

Suggest you have a large SD memory card for your phone, say at least 512m

Oh, and the map downloads take a long time, try Singapore to begin with as it is

less than 2m.

And all for a great price ... FREE :D

Hope this helps.

Naka.

EDIT, Grr, forgot the address ... here it is.
