[this is for an iranian friend] - I'm trying to give him some helpful advice.

His current Non-B (90 day) visa finshes in May.

 - He was cheated out of a lot of money, so he had to close his business, but wishes to stay in Thaialnd for 1 year.

Currently he will be fine (on his existing visa) until May,  (and perhaps longer if covid-19 continues).

But after that he needs a visa of some sort.

I suggested the ED visa.  (study Thai with a school that includes the visa).

But, because he is Iranian, does this pose any problem ?

I used to do my visa-runs in Vientiane (Laos), but I have no idea if Iranians are allowed there.

Where would be the best Embassy for him to go ?  (for when he needs to do a visa run).

Becuase all the schools are currently closed, its impossible for me to find out any info on this matter.

I'm kind of hoping that somebody may know anytyhing specific to Iranians.

Thank you very much  ????

Iran is on the list of countries that can only apply for visas in their home country.

The KL embassy is the only one nearby showing the ability to apply and wait 4 weeks for approval. But they are not accepting applications for non-ed visas at this time. http://www.thaiembassy.org/kualalumpur/th/services/99060-Visa-Requirements-I.html

ok, I understand. (and thank you for digging up these useful links).
I suppose that the 60 day tourist visa is also included in this ?
and i'm guessing it also means that iranians can't get the 30 day visa on arrival.
Am I correct with both assumptions ?

its a pity the thai embassy in malaysia is off limits,, but i guess it will be ok again after covid-19 is over.  But it means waiting in malaysia for 4 weeks.

I often forget how easy I had it when I was in Thailand!  (i'm from the UK).
really sucks for iranians who want to travel or live abroad !

i just noticed the 1st link is actually from the Thai Embassy in KL.
When I used to live in Thailand, I seem to remember seeing rules differning depending on what country the Thai Embassy is in.
eg: Vientiane was so easy, compared with Hong Kong and Singapore.

Is it possible that KL is just saying these rules,, but in fact other countries may allow it ?  or do you think this is pretty 'set in stone' (in every Asean Thai Embassy) for iranians ?

It is world wide. There may be few embassies that will make an exception.

I have researched the problem before and there are none in the region that will issue visa for him.

Iranians do not get a visa exempt entry or a visa on arrival.
