Aviation authority extends ban on flights until April 30

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) on Wednesday (April 15) decided to further extend the ban on passenger flights to the Kingdom from 00.01am of April 19 to 11.59pm of April 30.

 

The CAAT had initially prohibited all aircraft from entering Thailand from April 4 to 18. The move is to stem the Covid-19 contagion.

 

The order, signed by CAAT director-general Chula Sukamanop, exempts state or military aircraft, emergency landings, technical landings without any passengers disembarking, humanitarian aid and medical or relief flights, repatriation flights and cargo aircraft.

 

Passengers or staff on the exempted flights will be subject to a 14-day quarantine in Thailand according to the regulations announced by Department of Disease Control.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand has extended a ban on incoming passenger flights until the end of April in a bid to curb the coronavirus outbreak, the country's aviation body said on Wednesday.

 

The ban was first introduced on April 4, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand has already extended it in once until April 18.

 

Since the outbreak escalated in January, Thailand has reported a total of 2,613 cases and 41 deaths, while 1,405 patients have recovered and gone home.

 

Thailand's tourist industry, a major employer and foreign currency earner in the country, particularly hard.

 

Thailand's economy is expected to lose 1.3 trillion baht (nearly $40 billion), almost all of it in the tourist sector, due to the initial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, though that figure will increase if the crisis lasts beyond the second quarter, according to an estimate from the Thai Bankers' Association.

 

Earlier this month, the country's interior ministry said Thailand will re-open borders in 21 provinces on Saturday to allow Thais in neighboring countries to come home, after shutting down borders in late March.

 

Up to 100 people will be allowed to enter per one border checkpoint per day, and they will be subject to a 14-day state quarantine, the ministry has said.

 

Thailand shares borders with Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Malaysia.

Correct, the EVA flight BR67 on 15 April to London had nearly 200 spare seats available in the morning. No idea how many when it took off. Landed at LHR 40 minutes early. Next flight is scheduled for the 17th, at 20,835bht, although I can see them cancelling if the number of empty seats continues at this rate. You can now book on Emirates from BKK to LHR and FRA from May 2 priced 10,370bht and 10,780bht one way. Flight is not yet daily.
