NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has called a meeting with telecom operators on Wednesday to ask them to consider lowering mobile phone service fees in all packages for subscribers by between 10 to 30 per cent.

NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith said that the fee reduction proposal is for both prepaid and postpaid subscribers.

The initiative is aimed at helping people lower the cost of working from home and to provide assistance to mobile phone subscribers who are not eligible for the NBTC-sponsored free 10 gigabyte of mobile data usage for 30 days.

The NBTC and mobile phone operators have jointly allowed eligible subscribers to apply for the privilege from April 10 to 30.

However, the NBTC is unlikely to announce the meeting result on Wednesday, given that the telecom operators need to consult their executive boards before they can make a final decision.

Well, they could start by making the free 10GB free for all currently in Thailand and not just Thai people!
