AIS offers 5 free mins of SMS

BANGKOK: --Leading cell-phone operator Advanced Info Service (AIS) will kick off a "five-minute-free-short-messages" campaign next week to encourage those who rarely send messages to take up the habit.

AIS assistant vice president Suvit Arayavilaipong said yesterday that the SMS Daily Free Time campaign would allow subscribers to send short messages free of charge for five minutes during three periods: from 7.00 am to 7.05 am, 18.00pm to 18.05pm, and 23.00pm to 23.05pm.

On average, AIS customers have sent 70 million on SMS per month, or 2.3 million messages per day. AIS charges Bt3 per message.

In the last quarter, AIS recorded traffic of over 126 million messages, while 163 million were sent in the first quarter.

Customers do not have to subscribe to the programme, which runs from June 17 to November 30.

Suvit said AIS had also officially launched its Future SMS service, which allows users with WAP-enabled phones to send messages at pre-set times to different numbers at the same time. The service charges Bt2 per message.

Users can access the service from their handsets by going to the http://www.wap.mobilelife.co.th site.

somebody not proficient in tapping out messages on their cellphone would probably take 5 minutes to complete one message. and if their clock is not completely sycronised with the AIS timepiece? wonder how long it will be be fore these time slots are abused by mass marketing.

:o

why do the ais ideas seem to be of the similar type to mr T's?
