kevc
According to an ad in todays Bangkok post you can now teach conversational English WITHOUT a degree. The university in Bangkok will supply you with a work permit to allow you to teach while studying for a TEFL/TESOL certificate. I've no links to the company advertising this but I thought it may help others, ads on the front page of classifieds under TEFL, JOBS.

Ijustwannateach
Quite a number of people *DO* do it legally, OP- I know a few of them myself. Furthermore, discussion of this topic is restricted in the teacher's subforum as per the guidelines (which you apparently haven't read). You may read extensive discussion of this in past threads, but it will not continue here or now. Thread closed.
