Hello,

At the moment I have a Non-B (ED) visa and I wonder if it's possible to cancel it inside the country. Due to the Covid-19 I can't travel out from Thailand. The reason I wonder this is because I am going to start work in Thailand and my employer need to apply for a work permit. Normally you have to leave the country and apply for the work permit in a consulate/embassy. Has anybody else been in the same situation and solved the problem somehow?

Hello, I am new here and hope that I can give you the right information.

You never apply for a work permit at a consulate, that's for a visa, or an extension of it.

You can cancel your work permit at the local labor department.

That's what I have done.

Visas issued by an embassy or consulate are not canceled by immigration. They can only cancel extensions of stay issued by them. A non-ed visa issued for education.

You do not apply for a work permit at a embassy or consulate. I think you are confusing a work permit with a non-b visa that is needed to apply for an extension at immigration.
