The Public Health Ministry, in partnership with the World Health Organisation and other health-related agencies, has launched a three-language hotline to help answer questions on Covid-19 posed by migrant workers in the country.

Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai, director-general of the Department of Disease Control, said there is a need for information from many dimensions.

The “migrant hotline” was launched by the Department of Disease Control together with WHO representative in Thailand, Dr Daniel Kertesz, and other health agencies, including the International Organisation for Migration, the Foreign Ministry, as well as NGOs like Raks Thai Foundation and the World Vision Foundation of Thailand.

He added that according to an April 25 report from the Health Ministry, 42 migrant workers have been infected by Covid-19, which points to the need for the distribution of information that is more specific to these groups.

People can call the 1422 hotline for information in Cambodian, Laos and Burmese. The service will be available from May 1.
