Finance permanent secretary Prasong Poonthanate has criticized those engaging in sporadic and highly visible protests in an attempt to attract media attention to their efforts to get the 5,000 baht state subsidy.

He also said he is of the opinion that some media outlets are unwittingly being used by these protesters, claiming that some have already received the subsidy cash, but are demanding more. He cited the recent case of a taxi driver, who had attempted to scale the perimeter fence of the Finance Ministry as members of the media filmed the incident.

The cabbie, identified as Pongpicharn Thanathirapong, was at the Ministry on Thursday to demand that the handout be wired to his account that day, claiming that he had received a text message instructing him to show up at the Ministry file his claim.

Media is content hungry.  Coronavirus is big news.  An enormous amount of people have no income.  People who are dependent on a daily wage are without anything.  Put it all together and that is why the media cover anything related.

Not only here, in Australia there are daily stories about people who are desperate and turn to the media for exposure.

I thought the unscrupulous were the ones who controlled and issued the state handouts!

Media urged not to be used by unscrupulous protesters, but only to be used by unscrupulous government officials.????????

OK so I this woman didn't commit suicide either ?

They will probably try to demonize the protesters as they usually do.
Funny after they've been in the news they receive the handouts but if they didn't qualify why give it to them?
Of course Civil Servants don't have anything to worry about.

So basically don't report these stories because it makes us look bad.

For a country that likes to try and control every aspect of their citizens' lives, they really have no clue who's who and what they do for a living, etc. Handing out 5,000 baht for those who need it really shouldn't be this hard.

Just another control measure from the control freaks running the country.  This sort of thing will continue until the Thai people get brave enough to turf them out !

Finance permanent secretary Prasong Poonthanate is rewriting Thai dictionaries and replacing the word "desperate" with the word "unscrupulous?"

He continued: The government is not as thick-skinned to criticism as we thought we were.
