Thunderstorms wreak havoc in 12 provinces

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said today (May 4) that a collision between a high-pressure system from China and hot temperature in Thailand has caused thunderstorms and wind gusts across the kingdom (except in the west) from April 29 to today.

 

Director-general Monton Sudprasert said the thunderstorms and gusts wreaked havoc in 12 provinces, especially Chiang Mai, Phrae, Surin, Nakhon Sawan, Lop Buri, Chachoengsao and Surat Thani. Some 2,572 houses, at least two temples and 10 electric poles were damaged.

 

However, there has been no deaths reported so far, and the situation in these provinces has been resolved, he added.

 

The department, together with the Army and related agencies, has sent officials to help people suffering and have repaired their houses, distributed food and necessary items, as well as taken note of the damages in line with Commerce Ministry regulations.

I dunno about wreaking havoc. The headline reeks of over-sensationalist journalism.

From the look of the photo, this structure was condemned before it was finished being built

These storms are very localised, I would say that the damage shown in the photo

could be classed as havoc. I remember a year back me and my wife were out at a 

market in Phibun Mangsahan in bright sunshine, when we got home, about 20 km

away, it looked like a tornado had been through the village.
