The Department of Disease Control is advising people returning to their home provinces to strictly comply with Covid-19 prevention measures such as wearing face masks, looking after their health and maintaining social distancing to curb the spread of the virus.

Dr Sophon Iamsirithaworn, director of the Division of Communicable Disease, said on Monday (May 4) that people returning to their hometowns during the long holidays may increase the chance of new infections.

“Though the number of new Covid-19 cases has dropped and the government is easing lockdown measures, people still have to strictly comply with regulations put in place to curb the contagion,” he said, adding that people returning home maintain cleanliness when using public areas.

“People must take care of their health, maintain distance from others, use serving spoons, wash their hands regularly, and avoid touching their face, eyes, nose and mouth to avoid transmission of the disease. The elderly, especially, have to be careful,” he said.

“If it is necessary to go out, people should wear a face mask, avoid crowded places, avoid contact with people who are showing respiratory symptoms and remember to immediately wash up upon returning home.”

People can call the department’s 1422 hotline for details on what they can do to help curb the spread of the disease.
