Lawful way to avoid Customs' Fees & / or VAT etc for "personal use"

Recommended Posts

Dear Fellow Thaivisa.com Posters,

I recall some mentions, on Thaivisa.com forum threads, of ;

means to avoid Customs Fees & / or other Govt. fees for particular categories of products imported from China, & maybe from ASEAN countries, for personal use at least, into Thailand

Some posters spoke of a colour "green" form to submit [ at start of ordering process perhaps ? ]

Please feel free to inform with succinct most useful understanding on this topic.

Thanking yee all in advance for yer most helpful constructive relevant replies.

Avoid couriers !

Where possible use standard Post Office services but in current climate that may be difficult.

There is a pinned topic on this at the top of the forum with useful email and telephone nombers where they speak English and can advise you correctly.

Many thanks CharlieH for ur good addition to this topic,

viz.

avoid couriers.

I am aware of that insight following reading consensus in many a thread on Thaivisa.com forum ;

They are harbingers of bad luck for the addressee in that the addressee is hit with customs duties inter alia thanks to courier company's giddy enthusiasm to notify customs even if the item is for personal use only & reportedly of "trivial" market worth.

Obviously they would also not be likely contenders for helping one to get proper handle on the "green form" mentioned in my original post.

Are u aware of such a "green form" CharlieH ?

Once again I recommend you contact the number given in the previous referral and get it from "the horses mouth", that way you avoid speculation and mis-information. They speak good English.

I will contact those phone numbers which u gave in ur first reply CharlieH ;

And,- thank u for that specifically too.

However,- I allow for particular person from these offices innocently not knowing about such a facility [ alleged "green form" ] that :

"may have been" in operation

"is" in operation.

So, for "redundancy" / "supplementation" sake,- I welcome responses from posters who have knowledge about the "green form" discussions.

Regrettably,- a search in Thaivisa.com did not produce results for "green form".

Look all i know is that you will have to pay tax when a product is taxable. Personal or commercial use have no impact on this. Its about what kind of item and how expensive it is.

If its an item that falls under some treaty between a country and Thailand you might need extra forms to claim this to have it tax free. There are tax free things but then indeed a extra form is needed.

So its about WHAT it is, what its PRICE + SHIPPING is and from WHERE as some things are tax free under some treaties.

So you as a consumer need to find out if it falls  under such a treaty and then get the extra forms.

With regard to the aforesaid query seeking clarification of the so called green form, I can affirm my belief that it most likely refers to the Certificate of Origin (form E) under the China ASEAN Free Trade Agreement. This enables the Thailand importer to attract a lower tariff under the FTA. My firm has used these in the past with regarding to the importation of specialised machinery from China. However, we had always utilise the services of a customs agent to handle such formalities on our behalf. (NB: In the original form was white with beige font back then, and the triplicate counterparts were green).

I profess that I'm unaware of using the form for personal (non-business) imports.

Apologies for delay in returning ;

Special apologies to the posters who posted after my most recent post ;

My computer & / or internet connection denied me facility of typing a post before now.

Again,- very helpful responses ;

Note ;

I am delayed in contacting the phone numbers in pinned topic at top of forum as advised by CharlieH ;

Briefing of the nice Thai lady on this topic & my line of enquiry so as to assist me if necessary during those avenues of pursuit is still pending.

This is very useful info., mark5335, even if I as importer for personal use only or gift only, cannot avail of it ;

Now knowing this can be very useful for helping business owners, or staff, to help me with their knowledge as to how to minimise duty charges & taxes & other charges on particular item for personal use only or gift only.

By the way ;

I understand that Thai businesses can import product into Thailand without incurring duty charges & taxes & other charges on certain product if the product are then modified [ to what extent ? ] for then export from Thailand.
