All Thailand’s provincial governors have been instructed, by the country’s Interior Ministry, to screen everyone arriving from the southern resort province of Phuket and to quarantine anyone suspected of being infected with COVID-19.

The instruction was issued by Mr. Chalerm Promlet, the ministry’s permanent secretary, after some people, who had recently left Phuket, tested positive for the virus on arrival in their home towns.

Mr. Chalerm also ordered governors to allow entry of these returnees, saying that many are jobless after the closure of businesses in Phuket.

Another useless instruction....how could this ever work...screening everyone from Phuket?

Does every province have to go door to door and ask where they came from?

Again a re-active measure, tested positive after travel.

Surely it would be better to test before they left, if negative you can go, positive gets you 14 days in the guest-house?

lol how in the F are they going to do this?

I would be surprised if the geniuses started collecting IDs and license plate information as they were leaving Phuket, asked where they were going, and passed that information to the newly established 'Covid19 Centers'

Did nobody in this Interior Ministry meeting stop and think hold on, how are we actually going to able to do this?

As is the norm here, something is released without clear instructions and thought behind it, then within a few days it's stopped.

There you go, the perfect excuse for locking up dirty farangs for a fortnight.  ‘Suspected of being infected’.

Why the need since Phuket has been closed downed for a month and there is no COVID-19 here?  Amazingly low infections and really no deaths from otherwise healthy people.

That's what we are being told.

68 arrived to Ratchaburi (wife's home town) from Puket. And yes, eveyone is being traced by village health volunteers. It's not that difficult. There have been no reported, extra cases from that province for about 3 weeks.

It is being done.

There's a real stigma attached to this virus in Thailand

No wonder nobody wants to get tested or admit to having it

This makes far too much sense and that does not seem to be allowed here.

I've posted in another thread... "I get the impression these "Minister of (........)" people are in way over their heads.
