More than 14 million applicants for the government’s Bt5,000 remedial payments have been approved, while 11.8 million applicants have already received the money, Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, secretary to the finance minister, said on Monday (May 11).

He said that Finance Ministry will deliver the pandemic-relief payments to the remaining successful applicants next week.

The appeal process for applicants who were rejected by screening is also progressing well, he said.

“The process to review the eligibility of applicants is going well as most applicants have already sent their documents to be checked, so we expect the review to be completed by May 17,” he said.

He added that the complaints centre at the Finance Ministry will be open until Friday, May 15.

“We expect the number of [complaints] to drop because most successful applicants have already received payments,” he added. “However, the ministry will address the issues of all those who come to submit complaints.”

Replying to criticism of the process by former Pheu Thai MP Samart Kaewmechai, Thanakorn said: “We are working together and we are doing our best.”
