Which Hosting Site Best For A Simple Personal Web Page?

Featured Replies

I just want to post a few images & basic text about myself. Is this now called a blog? Nothing too complicated. Ideally would want to paste straight in from a WORD document, and update the site occasionally. Possible? Thanks in advance.

what about myspace?

Unfortunately my server in Switzerland blocks Myspace as being 'Adult/Mature Content'. Weird, as even Sunday-opening convenience stores here sell original 'Private' hardcore pornography on rotating postcard stands where there are kids running around. TiS!

Any alternatives less 'raunchy' than Myspace?

try this...

multiply.com

Yahoo 360 free

Yahoo 360 free

This is the URL they gave me ...

http://360.yahoo.com/my_profile-tcAECOElaaOWaDruqSbnqBRa

What a ridiculous address. No-one will bother typing in this.

I have a colo server and can host your site ( and anyone else who needs one ) for free. You'll have to buy a domain name and point the domain to my server though. If you go to

http://www.godaddy.com

or something similar you can pick a domain name that isn't in use and buy it. It was like $8.99 ( US) last I checked. Yahoo and other places often have specials on domain names too.

If you want to do this, I'll need to give you the name of my DNS servers to put into your domain name information. Let me know.

( also the control panel for your site on my server has a program called "fantastico" which will automatically install many many different blog programs if thats what you are looking for).

I'd say just get a blog at Wordpress. It's easy to use, not as ugly as myspace, and no knowledge of HTML needed.

Thanks to all for replies and offers. I thought Myspace and Yahoo360 were truly awful pieces of software considering the money behind them. Cheap and simple is beautiful in both the real and cyber worlds. Multiply.com got my business in the end, and gave me a concise URL based on my user name.

I use this one.

http://my.fotopic.net/

250MB of free pics and you can put text on there also. I have 38 collections and havent even used all my space yet. If you want more space its only 5pounds for more.

On Yahoo you have the option to use a short URL incorporating your user name. You have to get used to the software to get the best results.

Anyway good luck.
