BANGKOK (NNT)- The Prime Minister has ordered an investigation into alleged state quarantine kickbacks in order to take further tough action against the wrongdoers.

Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered an investigation into the hoteliers’ claim that a group of people have demanded kickbacks from them if they want their facilities to be chosen as state quarantine centers according to the news report. He vowed to take tough action against such wrongdoers who are taking advantage of business operators during this difficult time.

Dr Thaweesin Witsanuyothin, spokesman for the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, has confirmed that the center has never sent anyone to demand a kickback for turning a place into a state quarantine facility, to acccommodate Thai people returning from abroad. He urged any hotel operator with knowledge of the alleged practice to file a case against the people who demanded a kickback from them.

Couldn't be true, " no Thai would do that"

Just a misunderstanding.

Obviously not getting his percentage then.

It is so obvious a three year old could tell them this would happen, it is the norm here. What else does he expect. There are kickbacks at every turn here, for every form to fill in, for every signature needed, and he of all people should know that considering how he got where he is.

I bet this case will be out of the news shortly, and there will be no follow ups. And the NACC will not be woken up.

however, he remembers discussing the initiative with a colleague next to a Win moto cy stand and there is a good possibility that one of the moto cy taxi drivers overheard them and now was trying to make a baht. But a Thai official would never do something like that!

Highly unlikely in amazing TRUSTED Thailand.

This is what is wrong with this picture, any responsible, credible and decent organisation would launch their own internal investigation. Instead, they pass back the buck and hope the issue goes away.

According to other news sources they were using middle men demanding 40% commission which is outrageous that's 10% over the norm 30%.
Hopefully they'll be arrested and punished like those were punished for stealing from the "Destitute and Needy Fund" probably transferred to the PM's office.
On a side note the Commerce Minister suspended over the Face Mask scandal is apparently back at work after an investigation found there was no wrong doing was that reported already?

corruption, the biggest CANCER of society

It is just the norm how else to supplement ones income in Thailand until Uncle Tu eradicates corruption

Has any official from this administration ever been seriously investigated, much less charged with a crime, or imprisoned? The entire army, administration, police department nationwide at all levels, immigration, and customs departments are all completely above the law. Any and all laws. Prayuth talks a big game, but he DOES NOT walk the walk. If anything, the army goes out of their way to protect the corrupt here. You guys are fooling nobody with this kind of nonsensical drivel.

There is no corruption in this wonderful Government. They are spending billions of baht to improve the infrastructure of Thailand to improve the lot of the poor people and not to feather their own nests. After all this is an incorruptible army Government with thousands of people who have been transferred to.....

It's a fact known, personally, to me that they don't even get to be a regular soldier unless they're able to pay the 'entrance fee'. I know one lady who sold her house to finance her son's acceptance. She regarded it as a long term investment.

And that likely applies to police promotions, immigration, customs, and right on down the line. Who does Prayuth think he is fooling? And what has he done to eradicate corruption, on any level? It was his main campaign promise. It took him 24 hours to break that promise, and he continues breaking it every day for the past 6 years. A total betrayal of the Thai people. A morally and ethically bankrupt administration, moving the nation backwards.
