BANGKOK • The Thai authorities are mulling over waiving quarantine requirements for selected foreign travellers when the ban on incoming commercial flights is lifted, by matching tourists from low-risk countries with low-risk destinations within the kingdom.

"This concept involves identifying low-risk areas in Thailand and overseas to create a sort of international tourist bridge or pipeline linking travellers between these two areas," the Tourism Authority of Thailand's (TAT) deputy governor for international marketing Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya told The Straits Times.

Incoming commercial flights have been banned till the end of next month, and passengers arriving from high-risk countries on other flights, such as state, military, humanitarian and cargo flights, are subject to a 14-day quarantine.

Sounds like they wanna herd the tourists around like sheep - yellow sheep over here, black sheep here, white sheep here.

Maybe that's how they've looked at us all along ????

Lock-Down objectives have been met. Hospitals were not overwhelmed. Covid-19 is with us, most have probably had it and not known. Life has to move on now, economies have be defibrillated - this is true of the world, not just Thailand.

So, if we end up in a world where Chinese people can travel freely in some parts of the country while farang tourists can't, how will they know that I am not a tourist as I'm here on a retirement extension? Will we wear special armbands whenever we're out in public if we're one of the ones not allowed to go to some parts of Thailand?

China will be back which is a bit concerning considering virtually nobody had it according to their figures.

Yet they're closing down new places of 100 million people in China, back to step 1

Will it repeat, I don't know, in truth I don't really care. If it comes again then it comes again.

Gosh the place soon will be flooded again with these Norwegians.

This type of segregation is totally wrong no matter how you view it.....!!! Plus they should not open up to international visitors until the country as a whole is fully opened up.

Funnel em in, puree and pour into sterile containers. Refrigerate until firm, package em up and ship em to the final destination. After 14 days return to sender ...

OMG, they are so desperate for tourists that they would go to any length to come up with all sorts of cockamamie ideas.

They can open up how they want, nobody is coming, people are either unemployed or worried about their future finances, wait a few years.

Look here, the only tourists that can afford to travel immediately post-covid are the wealthy ones. It doesn't matter if they come from St. Moritz or Timbuktu. If you choose to implement a segregation it will bite you in the a$$.

To be quite honest, things here in Canada are not that bad at all, it's only been 2 months, not 2 years, government assistance came quickly. For the younger people in the service industry etc, yes , they were hit hard, but older people kept working, most have funds to withstand the storm. I could travel tomorrow if I wished, same as many others. Would I, no, not till things get better, and I most certainly travel anywhere full of Chinese, that's for certain.

Sadly the longer the delay then the more businesses will fail or simply decide it's more prudent to just shut the doors ( or in our case keep em shut) As it's not feasible to continue the hemmoraging hoping that we can turn a profit. No profit equals no investment. The government is doing nothing more than intensifying the pain and anguish and amazingly to me the people just accept it and it's obvious that the horrible scary plague simply didn't ( and won't ) materialize.

Sounds like plan by TAT to get rid Pattaya of it's adult venues. The State decides where you can go, like Myanmar. First Article 44 and now Emergency Health Powers.

There will be no black or white sheep allowed...

It has already been stated earlier that China and South Korea are on list of low-risk countries.

Well, for a start the USA, Britain, Brazil and a clutch of European countries will be out.

90% of the developed world will be freely open to travel sometime in july. I cannot see southeast asian countries lagging behind much if at all.
