Thailand’s Opposition parties will propose that the House of Representatives set up an extraordinary House committee to monitor the Government’s spending of a 1.9 trillion baht loan, which is part of three executive decrees intended to cushion COVID-19 impacts on the economy, businesses and the people.

Pheu Thai MP Suthin Klangsaeng said today (Friday) that, since the Government has not given any details about how this huge amount of money will be spent, the Opposition finds it necessary to make sure that the money is be used properly, in a transparent manner and meets the need of those affected by the pandemic.

He explained that, through the special House panel, external experts in various fields could be invited to join, effectively monitor the spending of the money and make recommendations.

There's no need to worry. The 100% truthful, honest, pure-of-heart, and corruption-free PM has already affirmed that "clear guidelines" will be observed in spending this money. What more could anyone possibly ask for than..."clear guidelines?

You mean Ferrari dealers

Not long ago it was 1 trillion, now it is 1.9 trillion!

Who exactly is on the other side of that "loan"?

This represents about 60 billion dollars, a very big amount...more than 10% of the annual GDP.

What are they going to do with that money?

We haven't heard about anything beside the 5,000 baht scheme for the unemployed and low earners, which represents a very small fraction of 1.9 trillion baht.

Maybe they plan to pay for a one week delayed Songkran holidays for all the population...

My friend was on a similar panel before it'll only work if all the panels members have good ethics.
Otherwise it'll just cost more Tea money to spend the same amount.
Best solution is to disclose how every baht is spent to the public so they can control the spending but you notice no one suggesting that?

What the opposition want is a share out; then things will go quiet !

Call me a sceptic but my guess is the opposition is most likely worried there won't be enough gravy for their Wagyu steaks if they don't keep a close eye on the trough.

Indeed a lot of money.

1 900 000 000 000. Baht.  Thai Population, say 70 000 000. Do the maths.

Trust is good, Control is better.

As mentioned before, if the members have good ethics.
