Hi al, My first post.

Ill try keep this short. Anyway i may be made redundant from work here in Ireland with a payment of 60 to 70.000 euros. I would like to start up my own chater boat company in Thailand doing fishing trips and anything to do with chater boat hire. Would i get a work visa for this kind of work and would it be ok to have a forein skipper owner of the boat. I ask because in spain only spanish can be skippers.

To be honest, if thats all the collateral you have, then i dont think you should entertain a business startup in Thailand (nevermind any visa rules that apply)

Just think of what you need to lay out to start such a venture. The price of the boat alone would swallow up most, if not all of your money, and thats without running costs, food, accomodation etc.

Sorry to pour cold water on the scheme, but, quite frankly all you will be left with is something that you wont be able to sell, once the business has gone down the gurgler

Time for a rethink, i'm afraid :o

Which would be against EU law. There's a pretty good explanation of how foreigners can skipper boats in Spain at www.spainvia.com/boats.htm. I know a couple of Thais who charter boats (one speedboat, one long-tail boat) in fairly popular locations, and they really don't make very much money.

I think what you are proposing may be a prohibited occupation In Thailand.
