Government assures emergency will be lifted

Suporn Atthawong

Ending the night curfew is one step towards lifting the state of emergency, which the prime minister will surely do, Suporn Atthawong, vice-minister of the Prime Minister's Office, said on Friday (June 12).

He made his remarks in reply to red-shirt leader Nattawut Saikuar's comments that ending the night curfew was not good news because the government could use the state of emergency to reimpose curfew.

"We want Nattawut to understand that the government and the Office of the Consumer Protection Board worked on the process and found that if there were no state of emergency, the night curfew cannot be announced," he said. "The allegation that the government is continuing the state of emergency to maintain political power is an old way of thinking."

He added that the government had achieved success in dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak, adding that 95 per cent of the lockdown measures had been eased.

"Once the situation returns to normal, the government will certainly allow people to live a normal life," he added.

Government assures emergency will be lifted, ha ha.

Six years ago they promised to stamp out corruption, has that happened?

No it has got worse, so how can anyone believe anything they say.

Whatever happened here in terms of reported infections/ deaths the government caught a massive break. Seems to have been a massive over reaction in terms of lockdowns etc.

Critics are right in saying that the goverment had a compliant apathetic populce that made soe, lockdowns etc easy. They are right in saying these measures are now easy to use in place of 44 at any time.

But, Thailand seems to have come out of it relatively unscathed. And back to the norm of a few hundred deaths and thousands of injuries on the roads.

As soon as the "Crisis Decree" is ready to be implemented.....

Of course it will be lifted, but doesn't say when that could possibly be...... July 1st?

All these extended lockdowns have done is fuel anti government feelings .

Everything Prayuth and the army does, is an old way of thinking. Why would this so called allegation not be true?

So I wonder what is the new way of thinking.

A knee on the neck, let the poor starve, let the jobless commit suicide.

I hope the populace rise up and rebel and get rid of this tyrannical authority.

Yes and now the army are milking it..Sending people broke. COVID a excuse. No reason not to open international flights with test prior and landing

They have a hidden agenda

Will Thailand succumb to the World Health Authorities recommendations for the next planned wave? The infamous Second Wave is coming??

True, but that's not going to make any difference as the army will always be in charge, history shows that the army starts a coup for whatever reasons, and any future government of non military people will always be looking over their shoulders.

Before you build a new building, you have to knock down the one that was there before.

Well it is the same with a new society.

Covid 19 was, for some, a gift from the Gods.
