Five new Covid-19 cases in state quarantine

There were five new cases of Covid-19 in Thailand over a 24-hour period, the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration said on Saturday.

 

 

All five new cases are returnees from Saudi Arabia who are in state quarantine.

 

The total number of confirmed cases since the Covid-19 outbreak rose to 3,134 of whom 2,987 have recovered.

 

The number of fatalities remains at 58.

how long has the death toll stood at 58 ? come on thailand you are not trying hard enough. 

"5000 per month"? I seem to recall a figure of approximately 65/day on the roads on average, pre-Covid, though that may well not have included those who die in hospital or elsewhere later than the accident. So 65 X 30 is 1,950. I agree it would be good to have a better overview, of everything.

I think you're right of around 65/day not including those who die later. Deaths from all causes in Thailand is around 47k/month.

But but but - according to certain bus companies and Wat Po, it's only "foreigners" who are all carriers of SARS-Cov2.  All Thai citizens are clean and virus-free.  But - Danger, danger, danger - beware of Foreigners!!!

Yep - They are all Covid-carrying dangers to the Thai population.
Covid flies in the air looking for foreigners to infect.  All Thai people know that!    See, those 5 Thai from Saudi Arabia?  All infected by foreigners.  Proof positive!

I dont recall anyone from a European countries although a some ‘rushed’ to hospital after a night temperature was detected when they disembarked from the !London flight, obviously  none tested positive ?

Why ?

Have you investigated the year on year growth in deaths in recent years. Thailand has a growing population and for all I know maybe an ageing population. Could be that some or all of the 4% could be a normal 'growth-in-death-rate'.

 

Some of it could be from diseases like cancer and heart failure that have apocryphally been neglected because the populace is scared of going to hospital

 

We will never know. Journalists are not allowed to pose searching questions to the powers that be and would certainly not get any straight answers.

If you're referring to the NYT article, they give a general answer to that and say that they accounted for those types of trends. However, if you click through the link to their methods section, they have the sources for all the countries other than Thailand. Thai sources are missing. If you click to their raw data file that they make available, the Thai data is missing, too. So, impossible to tell how they are actually calculating the 4%. Interestingly, they did update that article and added additional deaths to other countries and they kept the Thailand graph and even updated the time frame to be only the month of March. But, the sources and data are missing.

Yeah yeah - Thais all think that Covid is carried only by us expats. That's why all Thais have been happy to go out and mix with other strangers during late March and April who are domestic-living Thais, but they spend their time scanning the path ahead for foreigners.

 

Give me a break! The world of Thailand is not all targeted against us

Had not read the NYT article JCP whatever that is. Response was just off the top of my own head

How many die of lung diseases say around Chiang Mai?  Or near busy roads in Bangkok?  Or anywhere in Thailand where illegal burning takes place......oh.
