BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand on Friday reported five new coronavirus cases, all of which were found in quarantine, making it 25 days without a confirmed domestic transmission of the virus.

The new cases were Thais returning from Saudi Arabia, said Taweesin Wisanuyothin, spokesman for the government's COVID-19 task force.

Thailand has recorded 58 deaths related to COVID-19 among some 3,146 confirmed cases, of which 3,008 patients have recovered.

Appalling that the government keep a certain segment of society closed, for their own agenda, If their overall figures are to be believed, leaving a hell of a lot of people without work.

Surely, many Thai citizens are now seeing through this regime, and, hopefully, an unrigged election would bring a "normal" normal back to Thailand.

Five new Covid-19 cases in state quarantine

By The Nation

Five new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed over a 24-hour period, the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported on Friday (June 19).

Thailand has now reached 25 days without a domestic case, CCSA spokesman Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin said.

All the new patients were returnees from Saudi Arabia. The five male students aged 23-26 were asymptomatic and tested positive on June 16.

Meanwhile, 11 patients were reported to have fully recovered and returned home.

As of Friday, the total number of confirmed cases in the country stood at 3,146 (2,444 domestic cases and 209 found in state quarantine) -- 58 are under treatment, 3,008 have recovered and been discharged, and there have been 58 deaths.

Globally, the total number of cases crossed 8.5 million, increasing by 141,000 on Thursday. About 4.53 million have recovered and there have been 456,000 deaths. Thailand is 91st among countries with the most number of Covid-19 cases.

Why does the caption underneath the photo need to tell us all this?

Keep you in the loop mate.

On another point why is Reuters so determined to stick with the historical cases instead of those currently under treatment?

Does this mean I can go and see my dogs?

they can, they just have to do thai style

stop testing

With over an average of 500 -1,000 COVID deaths per week and twice that many hospitalizations,  that wouldn't make much difference in the US. There is no masking as epidemic large enough to produce those sort of numbers.

What aggressive testing mainly does is make the asymotomatic and mild cases more visible.

Wish you were right, but Thailand has a history of being ruled by the military. so if a normal government took over they would be looking over their shoulders wondering when the next coup is going to come.
