Thailand’s former deputy commerce minister, Banyin Tangphaporn, tried to commit suicide while on remand at Bang Khwang maximum security prison last Friday, after prison officials uncovered alleged plots to kidnap the wife of the prison warden to hold hostage in return for his release and to escape while being taken to the court next Monday, if the first plan failed.

Informed sources in the Corrections Department said that officials managed to intervene and save Banyin as he tried to hang himself in his cell.

The sources said that Banyin was transferred from Bangkok special prison to Bang Khwang after officials learned that he had allegedly hired a former inmate to kidnap the wife of the warden of Bangkok special prison in Lampang province.

Probably all for show, so that he could get a transfer to a less secure location. He can then hatch his plan to escape. Great to see this scumbag in jail nonetheless. ????

And with these latest actions Mr. Banyin has proven once again that he is a dangerous criminal who should remain locked up for the rest of his life.

Let's recall:

In 2015, Banyin was accused of forging documents to transfer 300 million baht worth of shares owned by his friend and businessman Chuwong Sae Tang to three female con-conspirators. When things didn't go as planned, Banyin invited his friend Chuwong on a little road trip, driving the latter's expensive sports car while Chuwong occupied the front passenger seat. An "accident" happened, in which Chuwong was killed while Banyin escaped unharmed. Investigators at the time were surprised that the very minor car accident would actually have caused Chuwong's death while driver Banyin only sustained a few scratches. Banyin denied any wrongdoing, of course, but was nevertheless indicted.

As the case proceeded (with Banyin still free on bail), the 70-year-old brother of the presiding judge was kidnapped by four men outside the court on Feb 4 this year in an apparent attempt to force the judge to drop the indictment against Banyin. Investigators found that the car - again - was driven by Banyin, who took the 70-year-old to a remote area in Nakorn Sawan province, where he was subsequently murdered by Banyin's accomplices. The body was burned and the remains put in a fertilizer bag and thrown into the river., from where they were later retrieved. Unsurprisingly, Banyin denied any involvement.

And now, finally behind bars where he belongs, he planned yet another kidnapping (and, most likely, yet another murder)?

With a track record like that, one really also must wonder how many more murders might be on Banyin's conscience; murders that haven't yet been attributed to Banyin but which probably are strewn along his entire "career" path as a former policeman and later politician.

Never expected less from this clown.

I mean he did kidnap and murder the brother of a judge. And he did murder Chuwong (five iron to the head then staged an accident). And his first wife "died" (years ago) under eerily similar circumstances.

One assumes he still holds the rank of Police Lt. Col.?

You missed out that his wife also died years ago in a car accident when Banyin was driving.

What a shame his suicide failed.

Karma.

Indeed..save a lot of time, appeals etc.

His title Police Lt. Col should be taken away from him.  He is nothing but a plain Mr, and even that is too good for him

Does show the quality of politicians on both sides.

Hopefully he gets a second chance and is successful.

Yes, I did. And I am sure I also missed out on a whole lot more people who are now dead because of their sheer association with this homicidal psychopath.

Wow man, that's some straight up old skool gangsta!

He was, yes. Gives you a tingly feeling all over, doesn't it. ????

Yes... but not a warm one.

"tried to hang himself in his cell." couldn't even get that right.

oh no no.  You don't get off that easy after murdering someone.

You need a lifetime of being on the receiving end of a perpetual game of hide the sausage and the giving end of salad tossing

Seems to have a track record of failure, as commerce minister, his escape plan and his attempted suicide. Clearly he is qualified as a potential PM.

Due in court today and it's already revealed that if he doesn't get release there's a plan to kidnap a prison officers wife as a bargaining tool to get his release.

Finish all the cases against him (and his lo-life gang) as fast as possible, put him in solitary forever and all of his gang on permanent hard labour and throw away the keys.

Then focus investigation (the money trail etc,) how this creep ever got a ministerial position and charge those involved and long-term jail sentences. Then investigate how he ever got into the police and got a senior rank and punish those involved with long-term jail sentences.

Seems to me until something like the above happens we will continue to see many scaly incapable immoral ruthless folks in the police and in all institutions.

Yeah I know, this is LOS...

An old Joe Cocker song comes to mind: With a little Help from My Friends

Thailand  LOS. Land of Sleeze, Land of Scumbags, Land of many things, not just smiles.

This waste of oxygen should be made to to quit breathing. My opinion of course.

Geezer
