Fewer rains forecast as southwest monsoon weakens

The southwest monsoon prevailing across the Andaman Sea and Thailand has weakened, the Thailand Meteorological Department said on Saturday (June 20).

 

 

Heavy rains will continue on the windward side of western Thailand including the Central, the East, and the South’s west coast. People in those risky areas should beware of the severe conditions that may cause flash floods, the department said.

 

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours is as follows:

 

Northern region: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-26 degrees Celsius and highs of 31-34°C.

 

Northeastern region: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-26°C and highs of 33-35°C.

 

Central region: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas and isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 24-26°C, highs of 34-35°C.

 

Eastern region: Cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas and isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 24-27°C, highs of 33-34°C; waves a metre high and rising to two metres during thundershowers.

Southern region (east coast): Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-26°C, highs of 33-35°C; waves a metre high and rising 1-2 metres during thundershowers.

 

Southern region (west coast): Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 60 per cent of the areas and isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 24-25°C, highs of 31-34°C; waves a metre high and rising to two metres during thundershowers.

 

Bangkok and surrounding areas: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-26°C, highs of 34-36°C.
