Khao San Road counts down to the return of good times

Some shops and venues along Khao San Road have started catering to night visitors again, but far from the bustle of the past the famous road is mostly quiet.

Khao San is set to fully reopen in August, after a clean-up and renovation during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Local authorities are currently selecting vendors for Khaosan Road in preparation for the return of foreign tourists once the flight ban is lifted, Bangkok deputy governor Sakoltee Phattiyakul said on Thursday (June 18).

"In the next phase, we will renovate Rambuttri and Tani roads to beautify the Banglamphu area," he added. "On roads not frequented by vendors, we will plant more trees to offer shady spots for tourists," Sakoltee added.

Some venues are not open yet, as operators think it is not worth their expense.

Khao San Road is expected to be energetic and buzzing with backpackers or visitors as in the good old days at the beginning of next year. Related agencies will also organise events to draw more visitors.

It's going to be a long countdown. Didn't they get the memo from Tourism Minister Phiphat that only wealthy tourists will be welcomed? Not the sort of tourists that will be staying in Khao San Road.

….

This is going to be the “New Normal” Khao San Road.

No cheap beer, women of ill-repute, shoddy souvenirs or sleazy street food. The New Khao San Road will lure and entice only the most sophisticated and discriminating of ‘safe bubble’ backpackers.

TAT required guides, military-run dormitory guesthouses, delicious CP food, and an absolutely free CD of the PM's latest love songs will be included in the “Hip Thailand" package of only 40,000 Baht per day…(exclusive of 37% VAT, 30% foreigner tax, 25% gratuity, and 22.5% contribution to the general fund).

Armed police will patrol the area to non-stop insure visitor confidence, while tracking bracelets and a 9 pm to 6 AM curfew will further guarantee the 24/7 safety of all guests.

Throngs of wealthy visitors will surely flock to this latest jewel in the TAT crown.

They want to start the countdown, but what will they countdown from? 1,000,000? 5,000,000? Infinity plus 1?

Thai time countdown.

Khao San Road is expected to be energetic and buzzing with backpackers....

If they are saying this you can be sure it will be a lifeless soulless dog  of epic proportions...

Backpacking in the New Normal Khao San Road.

"Is there a Benz Limo service to the Khao San Road Hilton?"

Will be a long countdown.

Can backpackers still stay there cheaply? if not they will just go elsewhere and any potential atmosphere is just history. It's an interesting experiment to see whether it works or they killed it

Still, social distancing should be a piece of cake - there will be no-one there!

Vendors will 'be selected'

??????

Count down, September,  ok October,  eerrr  November.  Please!
