I've got a mate who wants to give up his work permit as the job he was going to do is not going to work out and he doesn't want to be saddled with the costs etc. His situation is thus:

He went to Penang with company papers to get a non imm B. Got that, then eventually got a WP and a non imm B to december 07. If he gives up the WP, will his non imm B still be valid ? If so, will he have to go out every 90 days ? If so, what day would the 90 days start ?

What he doesn't want to happen is to end up with no visa.

Any advice gratefully appreciated.

If he is still on the non-imm B, (not extention of stay) the visa will remain valid. Has to leave following the date shown as "permitted to stay until....

He may be, I'm not 100% sure. His Non ImmB was for 3 months, then his permit came through. Good for 1 month then good until December. Perhaps he would lose that right as well, I don't know ?

His employer will cancel his visa. Your mate must leave the country within 7 days. I know this for a fact as I gave up my work permit and I had to leave.

He is then back on tourist visas.

No employer can cancel a visa. But if he is on an extension of stay issued by immigration inside Thailand that extension will end with the end of work (return of work permit) and he will have seven days from then to exit country. If he has a valid multi entry visa he could then return on a new 90 day stay but it is not clear this person has that. If he is making 90 day border runs now he has a visa and it will not be effected by loss of employment.

I understand that he is on a "leave to remain" and from advice received here, it appears that his visa will expire with his permit (he wants to give up the permit).
