There was one candidate, but his party got disbanded, and he was barred from politics, all because he was a threat to this, unelected, regime.

It is to be expected, in a country where people are unaccustomed to honesty, that they will have strange ideas about what it is.

  • Yes, the man who claims to be the glue who holds it all together. The man who has such power and yet allows a watch thief, a land thief, a racist and a fake-degree-holding heroin smuggler to continue

"but some chose General Prayut Chan-o-cha as their preferred choice, citing his honesty, his several years of experience in national governance and his straightforwardness."

That must be the biggest joke this year.

Indeed. And of course also a threat to that "honest, experienced, and straightforward" guy.

One cannot really argue about it:

He WAS very honest about his dislike of Mr. Th and his party;

He WAS rather straightforward about his intentions of having Th and his party banned;

and he WAS very experienced in arranging the ban and party dissolution.

Come now.  What about Taksin Chinawatra?  :cheesy:

The most heinous crime that he ever committed was to promise to improve the lives of poorer Thais (as politicians in many other parts of the world do.)

Please spare me any comments about corruption, as if the others aren't.

There is always more than 1 issue in politics is there not?

I teach sailing to many Thais, including some very Hi Sos and even people working for the government and i haven't yet met one who didn't vote for Thanatorn.  This poll must have been conducted in an army barracks.

When you have to choose between Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Lucky Luke I wouldn’t have an answer either.

But but Thanathorn.

Seems a much better choice than what's available in the USA at the moment.

Most respondents to a recent poll say that they don’t see anyone qualified to be their first choice as Thailand’s next Prime Minister, but some chose General Prayut Chan-o-cha as their preferred choice, citing his honesty, his several years of experience in national governance and his straightforwardness.

The same poll shows that the opposition Pheu Thai party is more popular than the ruling Palang Pracharat party, and the popularity of government coalition parties, Palang Pracharat, Democrat, Bhumjaithai, New Economics and Prachachart, is declining. The National Institute Development Administration (NIDA) poll gauged the opinions of 2,517 people, in different occupations and of various educational levels, on June 23rd and 24th.

The poll shows 44.06% of the respondents don’t see anyone good enough to be the Prime Minister of Thailand, while 25.47% vouched for incumbent Prayut, claiming he is honest, straightforward, and able to restore and maintain peace and order. Pheu Thai party’s chief strategist, Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, is the second choice with 8.07% impressed with her track record and no-nonsense character.

This poll well after the most popular candidate and his party are no longer an option.

I was sat in a Thai bar the other night, packed out of course, when a young man asked if he could have a chat ?  Yeah sure, the conversation rapidly turned into a political debate regarding the Good General and the rest of his mob and how the people of Thailand are desperate to get rid of this recent plague of parasites.  This was a well educated man, but what i noticed most was the names i've heard from nearly every Thai i've had this same conversation with....... Mr Taksin, Mr Thanatorn, and someone who can't be named who's still shacked up in a Bavarian Brothel....  The young are better informed now and as far as i've seen they're ready for change........ Mind you i did advise a peaceful removal as this lot will be very quick on the trigger as they're getting used to being in power.....  It's on its way, i just hope we don't have a bigger version of 1992....

Depending on how the question was asked, the answer makes a lot of sense. There are many countries in the world where the leader is not overwhelming me supported by voters just the choice between bad and worse.  If you are looking for effective leadership it’s difficult to find in Western style democracies.  What can you expect when you hand over the keys to anyone with political aspirations.

Phue Thai wins by landslide victory. But the army will set them up to be de registered.. And this is another 100% fake poll. Everybody hates the army and Prayut.

Sorry as just can't believe this poll. This whole PPP thing and then non elected leader was forced. Honesty and let's say transparency do not exist.

In a democracy, yes. And, we always get the result we voted for, then have to put up with it for 5 years.

What a deceptive lead in... "Most respondents to a recent poll say that they don’t see anyone qualified to be their first choice as Thailand’s next Prime Minister, but some chose General Prayut Chan-o-cha as their preferred choice, citing his honesty, his several years of experience in national governance and his straightforwardness."

No mention of the fact that his numbers there are 1/4 of the country and is lower than his opponents. It's obvious who the author supports.

Maybe they can hire a foreigner to fill in as Thailand's Prime Minister until they sort this thing out...

They could even provide free healthcare insurance...waiver the baht in bank requirement and pay the agents fees.

How about Donald Trump?  He will be looking for a new job opportunity in January 2021.

The back of a small postage stamp could be used to write the full benefits of the eu. Talk about corruption in Thailand, they could learn a few things from the mob running the eu.

Too true, almost everyone I meet would like Thaksin to be PM.

Which is why the military can never allow another unrestricted election.

Thaksin or his nominee/party would win every election.

as long as it is a businessman/woman who never worn an uniform we should be getting along fine

when there is freedom of speech a new good leader will come ,now this is impossible

after 2014 this country of smiles turned in to the country of lies

corruption never was as big but just flowing into other (uniform) pockets

good goverments do not wear uniforms
