Poll – Most people see no one suitable to be Thailand’s Prime Minister

Most respondents to a recent poll say that they don’t see anyone qualified to be their first choice as Thailand’s next Prime Minister, but some chose General Prayut Chan-o-cha as their preferred choice, citing his honesty, his several years of experience in national governance and his straightforwardness.

The same poll shows that the opposition Pheu Thai party is more popular than the ruling Palang Pracharat party, and the popularity of government coalition parties, Palang Pracharat, Democrat, Bhumjaithai, New Economics and Prachachart, is declining. The National Institute Development Administration (NIDA) poll gauged the opinions of 2,517 people, in different occupations and of various educational levels, on June 23rd and 24th.

The poll shows 44.06% of the respondents don’t see anyone good enough to be the Prime Minister of Thailand, while 25.47% vouched for incumbent Prayut, claiming he is honest, straightforward, and able to restore and maintain peace and order. Pheu Thai party’s chief strategist, Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, is the second choice with 8.07% impressed with her track record and no-nonsense character.

There was one candidate, but his party got disbanded, and he was barred from politics, all because he was a threat to this, unelected, regime.

It is to be expected, in a country where people are unaccustomed to honesty, that they will have strange ideas about what it is.

  • Yes, the man who claims to be the glue who holds it all together. The man who has such power and yet allows a watch thief, a land thief, a racist and a fake-degree-holding heroin smuggler to continue

I was going to say the PM should be worried about polling 25-23%, but to be honest he'll probably be happy with it. With 33% of his friends unable to be thrown out, 25%of the votes would give him a working majority

Maybe they can hire a foreigner to fill in as Thailand's Prime Minister until they sort this thing out...

They could even provide free healthcare insurance...waiver the baht in bank requirement and pay the agents fees.

When you have to choose between Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Lucky Luke I wouldn’t have an answer either.

But but Thanathorn.

Name any country that is accustomed to honesty from their politicians.

the only real choice was banned from even trying, she would of been able to start the change that this country desperately needs.

The 640-odd respondents who said this should have been asked an additional question: Are you either related to Prayut, or do you understand sarcasm?

Yes, the man who claims to be the glue who holds it all together. The man who has such power and yet allows a watch thief, a land thief, a racist and a fake-degree-holding heroin smuggler to continue their work. The man who refused to swear to abide by the constitution which basically means Thai people are not and will not be the priority. Yes, the honesty is oozing out like pus from an infected wound with this one.

After they were polled some respondents returned to their offices to sign military papers while the rest went back to the parade ground, or cleaning the tanks and armoured vehicles, and doing errands and cleaning for the Generals, and their Wives.

It's a dishonest mistake.

That text just doesn't match the panel and poll result, looks quite damming to me especially for Prayut

Maybe if he chose his deputies better the result might be different

Deputy PM positions should only be held by elected MP's

No its more like it is in the US even many of his followers know the current president is a liar and a cheat they rather vote for him then let their enemies rule. Thailand is really divided and a there is a sizable (no were near a majority) group that supports Prayut no matter what.

What 'most people' think isn't even remotely important....as they have absolutely no say in which general puts a gun to their head and hijacks their country.

This is what happens when you have such an apathetic population towards politics. The indoctrination process is working well.

Many of us know which establishment is solely to blame for Thailand being unable to have any form of political development and as history has shown us, this will cycle will most likely continue.

My gardener could do a better job than any past or present PM.

This is a question for thailand.just like amercia people voted for trump it was they choice.in the uk boris was elected like we voted to leave the eu finally. The remainers complain but we are leaving that club. The people have their say and the foreigner can only observe the results.no matter what we think of past and present leaders the countrys people decide.

Quite. Since when was being "unsuitable" a deterrent to political candidates in any country.

In fact looking at many countries, like the US & UK, "unsuitable" would appear to be a definite requirement.

Is it possible that this post was sponsored by a certain Thai Army general?
