Popular Post Michael Hare
Last week, we noticed a hornet’s nest in one of our mahogany trees in our garden. The Asia hornet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_hornet One of my men said he wanted to take it away to rear hornet larvae at his house. He regularly eats hornet larvae. https://gothamist.com/miscellaneous/eating-hornet-larvae-in-taiwan On Saturday night when it was dark, he and two mates came armed with their equipment, two torches and a ball of cotton wool! Is that all you have I asked. Yes, we just climb up the tree and stick the cotton wool in the entrance hole. The queen and all her workers are asleep. The problem was that the branch where the nest was hanging, was very slender and would not support my extension ladder. No problem, cut the branch down. This they did and to my surprise, only a few workers crawled out, had a look around, and then crawled back to be with the queen. The nest is now back in the village, suspended high up in a tree, and at regular intervals, larvae will be collected. Once the nest dies off, the nest will sold as people hang these nests as decoration in their houses.
