Earl Cameron, one of the first black actors to forge a successful career in British film and television, has died aged 102, his family has confirmed.

Bermuda-born Cameron, who lived with his wife in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, died in his sleep on Friday.

Cameron first appeared on screen in the 1951 film Pool of London, in a rare starring role for a black actor.

His family said he "was an inspirational man who stood by his moral principles".

I have never heard of him, cannot remember seeing him in anything,

I suppose this is only a story because he is black, but at reaching

102 well done, RIP  Earl.

His career was in a different age than the one we live in now. Here's the explanation, in his own words (2017).

"He also found work hard to come by, saying to The Guardian: "Unless it was specified that this was a part for a black actor, they would never consider a black actor for the part. And they would never consider changing a white part to a black part. So that was my problem. I got mostly small parts, and that was extremely frustrating – not just for me but for other black actors. We had a very hard time getting worthwhile roles."

Frequently seen, but "nameless" to many.

I was not familiar with his name.

So I Googled it.

When I saw photos of him during his heyday I instantly recognised him......as possibly might those who "cannot remember seeing him in anything".

Perhaps they could get their nurse/carer to help them with "The Google"?
