MPs too busy to attend national reform debate, says Prawit

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan explained that government MPs were busy in a meeting on Wednesday (July 8 ) and failed to hear the summoning bell for a Lower House debate, causing it to be cancelled as it lacked a quorum.

Prawit then told a reporter that no further action was needed to remedy the no-show.

The House had been due to discuss the progress of national reform, in a scheduled debate between the government and opposition based on reports every three months.

However, only 231 MPs showed up, while House rules say at least 244 of the 487 MPs must be present before a debate can go ahead.

The meeting was eventually cancelled by House Speaker Chuan Leekpai, 20 minutes after the summoning bell rang.

More than 250 MPs and no one heard the bell. Next time you should find a better excuse.

So Prawit reckons MPs were too busy:cheesy:???? Yes busy doing nothing.

Either they were sleeping, or busy preparing or counting brown envelope contents.

Is that up to you?

Great first few days, Prawit. You’ve brought the PPRP down a whole other level. Who’d have thunk that was even possible?

More like he nodded off and didn't hear the alarm....................LOL

If you truly believed and had faith in something, wouldnt you welcome a debate about it instead of running from it?

That would have been a wasted 5 minutes.

Pavlovian reaction, they hear a bell and think they are going to get something to eat, when no food arrives they go back to sleep.

Arrogant and disgraceful behavior from them

Shameful

Bet their hearing would have been a lot better if the subject to be debated was an increase in their salary and allowances.

For whom the bell tolls........it does not toll for us

we did not hear it, by chance were the bars, restaurants

in Parliament open at the time, that would explain a lot

Well he got away with "watches from a dead friend" so no need to get too creative with excuses.

Opposition, what Opposition, oh those people, we never hear them, "there voices have been muted said Lil Fatty when asked"

In London, the nearest pubs to Parliament have a Division Bell so there are no excuses.

Perhaps they could try installing such bells in certain Ratchadapisek Road establishments!
