Going from Elite to Marriage Visa... and Back?

If one has an Elite Visa and is married to a Thai and wants to switch to a Marriage Visa, can this be done?  If so, can one then later on go back to the Elite Visa, or is that cancelled forever?

For those that want work Thai Elite suggests you get a non-b visa and work permit. The Thai Elite visa remains valid after the change and then it can be used again after the non-b visa ends.

I assume it would be the same if you wanted to get a non-o visa and a extension of stay based upon marriage.
